Loki’s character has never been such an enigma till the recent arc ofOne Piecemanga. While his recent appearance in the manga has sparked lots of buzz within the fandom, it’s his abilities that are at the center of debate. As the mysterious prince of Elbaf, what kind of abilities, or more specifically, Devil Fruit Loki may possess? The speculation has led to many interesting fan theories.

However, beyond any theories, the answer to the question may lie within the story ofOne Pieceitself. Eiichiro Oda has hinted a bit about Loki’s powers and given his reference to Norse mythology, it somewhat can be predicted which type of Devil Fruit Loki may have.
Loki’s Potential Devil Fruit Type inOne Piece
While Paramecia and Zoan-type Devil Fruits are dominating theOne Pieceuniverse, fans have long anticipated a Logia-type Fruit’s introduction in the series. Being the rarest (excluding Mythical Zoan) yet most powerful of the three basic Devil Fruit types — Logia Devil Fruits have so many potential to shift the trajectory of the series with its incredible powers.
This leads to the assumption that soon a powerful individual, who has possession of a Logia fruit, will appear in the series’ premise. At this point, Loki seems to be the perfect contender for this. As in theDressrosa ArcofOne Piece, Hajrudin possessed a Logia-type Devil Fruit and also claimed that a giant with Logia fruit would be unstoppable. It leads to the speculation that Loki’s Devil Fruit, which has been passed down the family of giants, may be of Logia-type.

However, the logic says otherwise. As per the belief of the giants of Elbaf, Loki consumed a Devil Fruit which was somewhat linkedto the Sun God. On top of that, Loki’s identity in Norse mythology has been associated with trickery, deception, and mischief, thus, a Logia fruit would seem out of place for a character with such implication.
Paramecia or Zoan: A Better Fit for Loki
If Loki really does not have a Logia-type fruit inOne Piece, it’s likely he wields either a Paramecia or Zoan fruit. Paramecia fruits are the most diverse category in theOne Pieceuniverse, granting unique powers that range from the bizarre to the devastating. For someone like Loki, who is closely tied to trickery and manipulation, a Paramecia fruit that aligns with deception makes far more sense.
A Paramecia ability could allow Loki to create illusions, alter his surroundings, or manipulate perceptions; just like he claimed himself as the Sun God among the giants of Elbaf. It also aligns withEiichiro Oda‘s tendency to give major characters powers that reflect their personalities and thematic roles in the story ofOne Piece.

On the other hand, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit, more particularly, a Mythical Zoan could tie Loki’s character to Norse mythology. This would strengthen the thematic connection between the character and his namesake, while also showcasing Oda’s creativity inblending mythologywithOne Piece‘s world-building.

Thus, a Paramecia or Mythical Zoan fruit tied to deception, transformation, or trickery would align perfectly with this characterization of Loki, while a Logia fruit would feel thematically odd. And given the current scenario, a Paramecia is most likely leading the race.
However, whatever Loki’s Devil Fruit ability may be, it will undoubtedly play a significant role in the ongoing Elbaf arc. WhileOne Piecemanga is currently going through a hiatus, when it resumes, Eiichiro Oda will definitely subvert our expectations by providing Loki with a more thematically deep character arc.

One Pieceis currently available to read and watch on Viz Media and Crunchyroll, respectively.
