After almost a year of complete silence, Miyazaki has been sitting for a multitude of interviews, dropping information aboutShadow of the Erdtreehere and there.
During his recent Famitsu interview, Miyazaki revealed some of the most important details regarding the DLC.
How to Access Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree
In a recent interview with Famitsu, Miyazaki revealed some key information about the DLC, especially regarding how to access it. The interview wastranslated and shared on Redditby user theangryfurlong.
The area of the DLC is not connected to the main game’s; players will get there through teleportation. You’ll need to enter the cocoon, or the “arm that hangs from it,” present in the Lord of Blood Mohgs’ arena. You have to have at least defeated Mohg and Radahn to access the DLC content.

Generally, it’s recommended to get to at least level 85-90ish before heading to Mohgwyn Palace and attempting Mohg. Considering the DLC content is available only after beating him, that means the content will be quite difficult. Miyazaki says:
With regards to stats, it follows that of the latter half of the main game. Basically, the approach towards difficulty is unchanged from the main title. The freedom you have in how you deal with threats is the same, and there are difficult bosses like Malenia in the main story who don’t need to be defeated.
If you’re starting a fresh save file to experience the whole game again along with the DLC, you’ll have to get through a large portion of the game before being able to access the content.
On the bright side, now’s your chance to try a build you haven’t before—or just use the Guts build again.
Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Will Center Around Miquella
The highly anticipated DLC will have the player follow in the footsteps of Miquella, who is “headed for the shadow lands.” Miyazaki also shared:
Further, there are NPCs also following after Miquella. The story of the DLC is told through them, and they cross paths with the player, sometimes as allies, sometimes as enemies.

Another pillar of the DLC story will be the history of Queen Marika and the new area, the Land of the Shadow.

Along with uncovering a ton of crucial stories, the DLC will also feature a huge map (larger than Limgrave!) with an open field, legacy dungeons, and smaller dungeons. Needless to say, there’s going to be hours upon hours of fresh content for players to experience.
In Miyazaki’s words, this DLC will be the biggest ever from FromSoftware, even compared to the ones forDark Souls 3orBloodborne.
