Creature-capture games have always existed in the wake ofPokémon, with hundreds of games trying to capture the success of the gaming giant.Palworldhas emerged as an interesting subversion of the IP, with visuals that seem ripped straight out of the famous creature capture open-world RPG.

Palworld

Palworldmight be another entry into the creature-capture genre of games that putsPokémonon the back foot, given that the game has broken a record in its first 48 hours already. A title previously held byElden Ring,Palworldhas become the 6th most concurrently played game in the history of Steam.

Palworld‘s concurrent player count is wild

Palworldhas only been around for 48 hours, but it has already surpassed a fan favorite in terms of consecutive players. Beating outElden Ring,Palworldmarked a whopping 959,607 players on its servers. However, all the successes that the game is enjoying are not without costs of its own.

Epic Games andPalworldpublisher Pocket Pair have been holding emergency meetings to deal with the inflow of players, which has been much larger than what they expected. However, it seems that the problem was just a ‘preconfigured limit on the back end, that has been resolved’, reportedInsider Gaming.

The game’s interesting premise and the potential to be aPokémonkiller have had audiences excited for the game’s launch. The game faces a slew of challenges at the back end as the game’s number of players grows exponentially. However, it seems that Pocket Pair and Epic Games seem to have gotten quite the handle on it, setting the game up for a long and successful run.

Palworldhas become one of the most played games in mere hours after its release, testing its ‘Pokémonwith guns’ playstyle with a varied set of audiences. Of course, it is yet to be seen if this is in fact representative of the times to come, or if this is a flash-in-pan trend that will taper down as the weeks go by.  While there have been several creature capture games that have achieved fame likeCassette BeastsandTemtem, none have been able to achieve whatPalworldhas been able to do.
