With just a day away from Microsoft’s big XO19 presentation, reveals have been teasedsuggesting much of the devs that make up Xbox Game Studios will have something to show. This includes the recently acquired Obsidian Entertainment, who will reportedly be announcing a new IP on stage at the London venue.
According to atweetby Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad, XO19 will be a show “worth watching” if you are into Microsoft’s first-party studios. There will be “solid 2020 release dates” for previously announced gamesBleeding Edge,Minecraft Dungeons, andWasteland 3. There will also be a new IP announced from Obsidian Entertainment, but what that could be is still unknown.
While Obsidian Entertainment is arguably most known for its work in first-person RPGs likeFallout: New Vegasor the recently releasedThe Outer Worlds, they did develop the critically acclaimedPillars of Eternityfranchise which is more akin toBaldur’s Gatethan a Bethesda open-world RPG. They are also known forSouth Park: The Stick of TruthandStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, which are also RPGs. It may be safe to say the game Obsidian Entertainment will be revealing is an RPG, but the sub-genre is still a mystery.
With that being said, the Xbox brand is in need of a first-party single-player RPG in its lineup. Obsidian Entertainment is a clear choice to take on this task. However, it has been rumored thatForza Horizondeveloper Playground Games is developing a new entry in the dormantFablefranchise.
The tweet also mentions thatRare will also reveal a new IP. This will reportedly be a third-person adventure game and will be a follow-up to its cooperative pirate simulatorSea of Thieves.
As mentioned earlier, Obsidian Entertainment’s last game wasThe Outer Worlds. If you want to see what we thought of the new RPG, you can check out ourreview.
