There are few characters that are as traumatized as the Wolverine in Marvel Comics. While his immortality and healing factors have brought him quite a lot of fortune, in the right hands, they can be just as dangerous to him. Over the years, fans have seen comic book writers get quite creative with how they torment the mutant.
However, none of his horrid storylines have been as disturbing as what happened inWolverine Vol 2 165. Considered one of the dark directions taken by Marvel, the story is certainly extremely gruesome and difficult to read for fans of the character.

While we have seen him being captured time and time again, this time was different in one significant way; the place had dampeners that got rid of his healing factors and high claws. Being human in every way, he was in grave danger, surrounded by an entire organization of people looking to kill him.
A mutant-hating gang decides to wake up the 18th-century magical entity, Mauvais. The thing about Mauvais is that he understood the very foundations of the curse of the Wendigo and used it to his advantage, becoming a cannibal and becoming stronger each time he ate human flesh. When he awoke, he was more than happy to consume the flesh of Logan, since he would only get stronger from it.

I must say, in all my years, I’ave never come across flesh so…invigorating, and believe me, coming from someone whose mystical powers are derived from the consumption of human meat—That is a great compliment, indeed.
So that is exactly what he did. Being locked in the same cell, Logan was tied to a chair as Mauvais took bites out of him over and over, only stopping after he had eaten one of his eyes. Since he did not have his healing factor, fans were forced to watch their beloved character get tortured to no end.
Surprising Allies
After Mauvais was done with theWolverine, he disappeared. The only problem with his departure was that he had made a deal with the Mutant-haters that he would kill Logan—something he did not do. Frustrated by this, members of the gang grabbed their weapons and were ready to shoot Logan dead.
What they did not know was that at the same time, Nick Fury was recruiting a team and putting all of his efforts into trying to save Logan. However, he did end up bringing one odd member to the team. Someone who happened to be Logan’s biggest enemy.
As Wolverine was staring down the barrel of a gun, waiting for his inevitable end, there was a sudden explosion, and the gun was no longer there. Instead, he looked up to find Sabertooth, who had an entire team of people ready to rescue him.
No one kills you but me.
