Nintendo has renewed the trademarks for four classic titles, including the likes ofThe Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap,Metroid: Zero Mission, and more.
Although it’s always hit and miss when it comes to trademark renewals, Nintendo could be in the process of cooking something up for these well known Gameboy Advance titles. Whether that be remakes or re-releases, or maybe Nintendo is finally gearing up to release Gameboy Advance games for the ever-growing Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion subscription service.

The most recent of these four titles beingThe Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, which was released in North America on January 10th, 2005. Whilst the oldest title included in the trademarks isMach Rider, an arcade classic that was released for the NES in the mid-’80s.
Nintendo recently released the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which saw a string of classic titles for the Nintendo 64 and Sega Mega Drive come to the Switch. Fans are required to pay for a year’s subscription to gain access to the games, with new titles being added frequently.
There are currently no Gameboy Advance titles available in the Expansion Pack lineup, which leads many to believe the recent trademarks could see some new titles come to the service.
It’s highly likely that this is just standard business practice for Nintendo in order to keep a hold of the trademarks for their games. However, trademarks have led to bigger things in the past, so things like this are always worth keeping an eye on.
In a recent string of trademark renewals, Konami Digital Entertainment also updated thetrademark for theSilent Hillseries, sparking speculation that a revival is in the works following the cancellation of 2015’sSilent Hills.
