Nightingaleis a survival game that provides players with a lot of different activities to explore. Players are able to face off in combat against plenty of different types of enemies, with some being more horrifying than others. Fishing in Nightingale is a great way to enjoy a different way to play, while also giving you resources you can use when you drive back into progressing through the various realms.

Crafting A Fishing Rod
Before you can start casting lines and catching fish from the various fishing spots featured in the game, you willneed to get your hands on a Fishing Rod. Some of thesurvival games similar to Nightingaleout there can sometimes provide players with a friendly NPC that will cater to a particular mechanic. However, there isno friendly fishermanto sell you ready-to-use rods. You will need to craft one yourself. To make matters one step more complicated, you will firstneed to know how to craft such a Fishing Rod. Luckily, there is an NPC that will sell you a recipe that will allow you togain this knowledge.
After that, you will need to go and get all the required materials to craft it. The NPC you need to seek out is anEssence Trader. As you explore the procedurally generated world around you, you will come across such an NPC — and have them marked on your in-game map. Once you have found them, speak with them toget a list of menu optionsfor what you would like to buy. Above Realm Cards, you will find Simple Items. From this menu, you will be able to select the recipe calledSimple Fishing Rod for 30 Essence.
While far from a master’s rod, this simple stick and lure may be the difference between survival and starvation for those lost in inhospitable realms.
Once you have purchased this recipe, you will need to make use of aSimple Tanning Station. This can be found by opening your Buildings tab and looking underCrafting: Basics & Repair. Interact with the Simple Tanning Station andselect Animal Fibre— you will then need toselect some Meatto use as materials. Now you will need to go and interact with yourSimple Workbenchto craft the Fishing Rod from the Essence Merchant’s Recipe. To craft it, you will need1 Wood Bundle, 2 Animal Fibre, and 1 Bones.
You can easily get essence by selling unnecessary items you may have in your inventory. If you do not have such items, look around for absolutely anything you can extract. It can be rocks, wood, berries, and anything else in sight. Extract whatever you can pick up in the area to get some quick essence and then speak with the Essence Trader again to buy up the Fishing Rod recipe as well as any materials you will need to craft it.

How To Fish In Nightingale
Now that you have crafted your Fishing Rod, you will need to know how to use it.Equip your Fishing Rodand then go over to any body of water with fish and cast your line into it. You can do this byholding down the left mouse buttonto charge up andreleasing it to cast out. This will be followed by a rather shortwaiting period, which will then show thename of a fishand its level appear at the spot your line landed once your line starts bobbing up and down. You can hook a fish bypressing the left mouse button againonce this name appears.
You will now need toreel in your hooked fish. There are 3 bars that will appear on the screen, but you should only focus on 2 of them for optimal results. Thered bar, and the brown bar. Thered bar represents how much fight the fish has leftin it. Fully depleting it means the fish is as good as caught. The brown bar is calledTension, and it will have asmall white line in the middle. You can click the left mouse button to build Tension, butdo not let the Tension get too highor else the line will snap. Simply try tokeep the Tenshin as close to the middle white line as possibleand you will be fine.
The final bar on the screen will be a yellow one calledStamina, pressing the left click too much can rapidly deplete your stamina. However, if youfocus solely on Tensionand do everything right, then you will not need to even be aware of the red or yellow bars at all and still be successful. Once the fish has no more fight,you will be able to pull it upand the fish will be caught.
Just like the Fishing Rod Recipe, you will need to get your hands on a recipe that will allow you to cook fish. This recipe may not be available at the Essence Trader you got your Fishing Rod recipe from, so you’ll need to travel to another one of the game’s realms to find one that will have it — Astrolabe should do nicely.
