If you, like me, have playedSkyrimfor hundreds of hours but have only interacted with the cooking system approximately three times, then there’s now a mod that can spice up the feature for you.
Queenanne’s ‘Master Chef - The Art of Tamrielic Cooking’ mod was released about a week ago. The mod adds a progression system to Skyrim, allowing you to progress from a lowly kitchen porter to a master chef using a few handy cookbooks.

At first, you won’t be able to cook even a potato, but after studying a few cookbooks, you’ll be cooking up umami-infused works of art that even Gordon Ramsay would be proud of. The cookbooks have names appropriate to their function such as ‘The Skilled Baker’ and ‘Bite-Sized Delicacies’.
The mod also makes changes to Uncommon Taste, the cookbook penned by the legendary Gourmet. Has anyone seen The Gourmet lately, by the way? By reading Uncommon Taste, the player will gain the knowledge to cook the two recipes contained inside.

Also included are three tiers of chef’s clothing that provide various bonuses to level up your cooking game. A full set will increase the duration of your potions, fortify your health, armour, stamina and magicka and allow you to resist those pesky cooking burns. More potent versions of the previously ineffective knife and fork weapons are also included in the mod.
Where does one find these cookbooks? Well, the basics can be bought from the various innkeepers around Skyrim. The more meaty stuff can be purchased from chefs themselves, or at the Winking Skeever and Nightgate Inn. Be careful at the latter though, I hear they found a dead Orc stuffed into a wine barrel this past week.
As with all Skyrim mods, you’ll need several other mods for this one to work correctly. The full list can be found on the mod page, linked above.
