League of Legendsis releasing its highly-anticipated animated series on Netflix!
During Riot’s 10th anniversary, they announced a slew of releases slated for the coming years like Valorant and Wild Rift. We also learnt that a new animated series is in production based around League of Legends' fictional universe.
After nearly two years, we now have another glimpse of the much-awaitedLeague of Legendsanimated series. What’s more, it’s releasing on Netflix!

What Is ‘Arcane’, TheLeague of LegendsNetflix Animated Series?
Arcane is Riot’s first animated series that will expand upon the lore ofLeague of Legendsand its fictional universe, Runeterra. Announced during ‘Riot Pls’, its 10th anniversary celebrations, we got to see a number of things around it.
The video starts of with a showcase of previous animations before we get a good glimpse of new footage. Among the familiar elements from the various scenes are the cities of Piltover, a steampunk-inspired City of Progress, and Zaun, the undercity district. We finally also see Jinx walking at the end, giving us the hint that she’s the lead character.
The New Arcane Teaser
Today, we finally got to see more of what Arcane has in store for allLeague of Legendsfans.
The teaser more or less picks off from where the first showcase of Arcane ends. We can also see Vi who is part of the main cast opposite Jinx. The description of the trailer says:
From the creators of League of Legends comes a new animated series, Arcane. Set in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, the story follows the origins of two iconic League champions-and the power that will tear them apart.
This suggests that the newLeague of LegendsNetflix animated series is most likely to build on their age-old rivalry in the lore of the two champions.
What Else Do We Know About The NewLeague Of LegendsNetflix Animated Series?
Arcane is Riot Games' first animated series independently financed by them. According to Riot’s global head of IP business and partnerships, this is done to give the studio"the creative oversight that they needed".
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Riot’s co-founder Brandon ‘Ryze’ Beck added: “Originally, League started off with a bunch of characters and we threw them together really quickly. Over time, players became really attached to the characters and we wanted to build more of a universe around them [with Arcane].â
