Bandai Namco held a Q&A withDigimongames producer Kazumasa Habu at Digicon 2022 on February 27 (26 EST), and he answered fans on remasters and remakes, and he reconfirmed a newDigimon Storyis happening.
New Digimon Story game is still in development, remakes and remasters discussion
Kazumasa Habu confirmed the newDigimon Storygame is currently still in development and it will focus on the Olympos XII. This newDigimon Storygame will also take place inside the Digimon World, and it’s not a sequel toCybersleuth. There are noCybersleuthsequels planned. However, a newCybesleuthsequel could be made if the fan demand is high enough.
This newDigimon Storygame was mentioned several years ago by Habu, so it’s nice to know it’s still in development. It has no official name though, and it wasn’t officially announced yet.
Furthermore, Habu also discussed several remakes and remasters, though he sadly didn’t confirm anything.
Digimon games on Wonderswan
First, Kazumasa Habu explained that while he would love to port the “Ryo Digimon Wonderswan games”, it’s currently not viable and he couldn’t convince his superiors to do it due to poor estimated sales.
A Digimon World remaster port or remake is under consideration
Kazumasa Habu explained that he is considering all these scenarios forDigimon World. But a remaster ofDigimon Worldwould be the most likely scenario. Because when it comes to making a remake, they’d need to think about what kind of elements to add to the game, and it’ll be particularly difficult because the original game is already very well balanced when it comes to the areas and Digimon.
Overall though, it’s important to note that Kazumasa Habu said theDigimonteams will focus on making new games rather than remakes and porting older ones.
The Digicon 2022 event is still ongoing as I’m writing this. You can catch the event livestream below.
