Margaery Tyrell was one of the most notable characters inGame of Thronessimply because she possessed the perfect combination of beauty, brains, and power. Most fans would remember her iconic line, “I want to be The Queen,” and that truly defined her as ambitious, cunning, and adaptable.

It is a shame that we did not get to see her rule long enough as the queen after she tragically died, along with hundreds of people, in the Great Sept of Baelor due to a wildfire at the end of Season 6.
Natalie Dormer originally auditioned for the role of Melisandre inGame of Thrones
Natalie Dormerportrayed Margaery Tyrell with so much grace and brilliance, giving life to a character most loved by everyone because of her charm and kindness. Surprisingly, the actress did not seek to play the role when she auditioned forGame of Thrones.
In James Hibberd’sFire Cannot Kill a Dragonbook, the 42-year-old English star revealed she wanted to play Melisandre, the Red Priestess.

I’ve never spoken about this previously: I didn’t audition for Margaery Tyrell originally. I auditioned for Melisandre. Then I got a call from my agents saying, ‘They loved you but want you to audition for another role.’
Dormer wanted Melisandre because she thought the character was so cool. She’s a red witch with magical abilities, and she’s also practically immortal all thanks to the Lord of Light. It’s easy to see what drew Dormer to this character.

However, showrunnersDavid BenioffandDan Weisssaw her potential to play Margaery. She took the chance, and the rest is history. Dormer said that Dutch actressCarice van Houtenplayed the role exceptionally, “but I always had a chuckle on the couch when a Melisandre scene came on,” she remarked.
Their Conversation Would’ve Been Legendary: It’s a Crying Shame Game of Thrones Never Let Two Level-10 Genius Characters Interact in the Show
Between Melisandre and Margaery, the Red Priestess had a better death scene. After the battle had finished and her mission completed, she willingly accepted her fate by removing the necklace that had kept her young and alive. She made it towards the final season, and that was already a feat on its own.
What happens to Margaery Tyrell in the books?
Margaery Tyrell is still alive inGeorge R.R. Martin’sA Song of Ice and Fireseries and awaiting her trial by the Faith, so there is hope that the author can give her a better send-off than what the show did. Still, there is a possibility that she would die the same at the hands of Cersei Lannister, or in a different manner.
“Nothing could console me”: Even the Actor Was Pissed at the Way Game of Thrones Killed off One of the Show’s Most Brilliant Characters
The Lannisters and the Tyrells alliance might end in chaos due toLord Varys working hard to put Aegon Targaryen on the Iron Throne, and once a massive conflict erupts between the two houses, Margaery may not make it alive towards the end of the book.
Game of Thronesis currently available to watch on HBO.
