The Beginning After the Endis among the most exciting manga that gained immense popularity for its well-crafted story of redemption and self-discovery. While the manga indeed has an intriguing premise, its very significant character writing issues make it hard to swallow. Perhaps the biggest jarring issue would be, how it treats side characters, who often seem closer to cardboard cutouts than actually fully fleshed-out individuals. Some such characters are the inventor girl, the members of the student council, and the members of the student disciplinary committee.
They only feature in the book as a space filler, leaving no trace once the story moves away from them. They seem to be completely undeveloped and do not have any meaningful communication with the protagonist, Arthur.

TBATE very often suffers from one-dimensional support characters who feel rather flat and wasted.
Solo Levelingalso comes as a good example. This series was initially under fire for not doing justice to the side characters. However,the second season of the anime adaptation promisesa great job of addressing this issue by providing more screen time for side characters. With the same thought, TBATE anime can bring to life its poorer character list, and thus a richer and more intensive visual experience would come forth.
