The Light Bowgun is incredibly similar, mechanically, to theHeavy Bowgun, but the two couldn’t be more different.Monster Hunter Wildshas a big arsenal, but only three available ranged weapons, and the Light Bowgun certainly carves out its place alongside the Heavy Bowgun and Bow.
Bowguns are a little different in Monster Hunter Wilds, but if you’re familiar with previous titles, you shouldn’t have too many issues. It can be a bit daunting at first, given all the skills and armor on offer, but knowing what works well with the weapon you’re using will always give you a major advantage.

This guide will cover a build for Low Rank and High Rank, but more than that, it’ll give you an idea of what works with the Light Bowgun so you can craft your own build. You can’t go wrong with experimenting on your own to figure out what works best for your particular playstyle.
Low Rank Build
One of the major draws of Bowguns is their versatility in combat, from applying various debuffs to doing different kinds of elemental damage. This can make the difference between victory and defeat when out on a hunt.

This build focuses on getting some of the most damage out of your constant onslaught with skills like Burst, Tetrad Shot, and Maximum Might. If you have any decorations you like, you’ve got three level one slots to use, but I’d suggest at leastPhysique Jewel 1to reduce the cost of dodging.
You’ll also get Stamina Surge to help keep your stamina topped off and keep Maximum Might activated. It should help you get out of trouble by giving you more stamina to work with, but it’s up to you to dodge.
You should be pretty much constantly on the attack, provided you’re not being focused by the monster. Using Piercing Ammo is also a good idea with this build since it’ll trigger Burst often, making your other ammo types more effective and making use of the increased affinity (critical chance) you get from Tetrad Shot.
Experiment with various powders and magazines on your Bowguns to see what suits your needs. I ran Pierce Ammo Powder and special ammo magazine to work better with Burst and Tetrad Shot.

High Rank Build
Now that you have more options for your build, you can focus more heavily on getting the best skills for the Light Bowgun. Again, you’ll want to focus on damage and skills that empower the Light Bowgun’s natural advantages, like applying debuffs or increasing special ammo’s power.

You’ll be focusing on the very best skills that give the Light Bowgun significant advantages on hunts, like Ballistics, Opening Shot, Burst, and Special Ammo Boost. These, along with others like Evade Extender and Evade Window, will help to keep you from getting bullied by monsters and bully them back from afar.
Until you hit HR 100, you’ll be stuck with whatever decorations you have, so make do with what you’ve got.
The goal of this build is to keep pressure on the monster with various ammo types and increased damage. Evasion makes surviving a bit easier and lets you stay far enough away that you should have plenty of time to react to any attacks.
If you want to add in some extra damage, Burst is always a great idea, but Agitator isn’t a bad choice either, since High Rank monsters are often enraged. Sometimes, the best tool for the job isn’t the Swiss Army knife, so let this build serve as a guide to prepare you to build on your own.

For Low Rank, go for theWindshear Light Isince it naturally comes with Tetrad Shot. That’ll help you out early on, since your options are rather limited, but you’re able to always change the focus of your build if you’re not enjoying the play style.
With so many weapons and armor to choose from, there’s practically an infinite number of builds andhundreds of hoursto test those builds. If something isn’t working, try refining your build a bit or try somethingentirely new; there’s no wrong choice in a game like this.
