Capcom Declares Its Commitment To Physical Game Releases
During the 45th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders, the studio released asummaryof the Q&A session that covered share prices, the publisher’s stance on discrimination and diversity in game development, and the studio’s sales strategy to promote the release of its new titles this year.
One question was brought up regarding the declining ratio of physical game sales, while the necessity of digital sales rises, and the studio was asked what its outlook and company policy were regarding this. The response was positive: “Given that a significant number of end users demand physical games, we currently do not expect to eliminate physical products.”

The rise in digital videogame purchases has been noteworthy of late, as gamers can often go digital to play the game a little earlier (often around midnight on release day) than waiting for a physical pre-ordered copy to arrive, and there’s also the issue of physical media taking up space.
Despite the increase in digital users, with Capcom confirming 90.1% of its sales were for digital titles in the 2023 financial year, fans were happy to hear the studio was committed to continuing the release of physical games, saying “Good on you Capcom! Proving why you’re still my fav game company!”

The advocacy for physical media was noticeably outweighing the preference for digital games within the social media debate on the subject, with another user saying “Even though I’m not against digital media, they should never cut options for the consumer. Getting physical games allows users to get better deals and have control over their library.”
