Whether you are attacking a piglin base head-on or defending the local villages from attack, you’re going to need a strategy. After successfully surviving a few piglin armies, you’ll probably end up feeling like an expert strategist, never really worrying that the enemy will get the upper hand. That is until you take on other players in Versus Mode.

InMinecraft Legends, there is a lot of replay value to be found outside the story campaign. But your old strategies might need some reworking if you are going to survive another player’s attack and take down their base. We’ll show you what you can expect when playing in Versus Mode, and the best strategy to make sure you are the victor.
Versus Mode Basics
Taking on other players can be incredibly thrilling. But before you can become the king of the hill, you’re going to have to understand the sandbox you’re playing in. For starters, Versus Mode can consist of 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3, or 4 vs 4 rounds. The size can be set when hosting your own game, or you can just hop into a public game and be surprised.
Like the campaign, each round of Versus Mode will entail a procedurally generated map. While all the core elements of the world are still present, all biomes and resources will be randomly scattered throughout the map. In addition, Ancient Towers will be limited in number, and there won’t be any First Golems available to recruit.

When you first join the round, you and your team will start with your team well, which is essentially the home base you must defend from the opposing team. Together, you’ll need to gather resources, build defenses, and eventually mount an attack on the enemy base. While you prepare, so does the enemy, and you may even run into them as you are exploring the map. As you, and they, complete certain actions, the narrator will inform you of the progress. This is helpful as it gives you an idea of how far along their base is, and what resources and defensive structures they have gained access to.

Divide And Conquer
To ensure your team is the winning one, you are going to need to work together. If possible, we highly encourage you all touse a mic,so you can talk to each other at all times. This will also help you coordinate your gathering and building efforts.
To start, divide the team in halfwith one half gathering resources with the other half building. This will help ensure you make the most of your time to get ahead of the enemy’s progress, and will also mean that two people will always be by the well to defend it should the enemy decide to attack. While one-half of the team is defending and building, the gathering team should balance gathering basic resources and taking down piglin bases to collect thePrismarineyou’ll need for additional upgrades.

Once you have your teams, the first thing the builders should focus on is building anImprovement Hubor two. This will allow you to build improvements similar to how you would around the Well of Fate in the campaign. Next, focus on building the gathering improvements, so you can gatheriron, diamond, andredstoneresources. These will come in handy when spawning more advanced troops and defenses. You’ll also want to invest in building theBannerandFlames of Creationimprovements, so you can have more mobs at your disposal.
Your team will share the total mob capacity, so it is good to be able to have as many as possible so more than one of you can rally a small army.

Building Your Base
Now that you have the core upgrades available, you’ll want your building team to start building out your base. For starters, make sure you have some mobs with you so you are always ready to defend against an enemy attack. Next, you’ll want to build your walls and arrow towers first. For the walls, you are going to build two or more layers, so the enemy has a much harder time getting access to the well.
Build your first wall layer so that you have plenty of room around the well to build various defensive structures like the Carpenter Hut, Masonry, and all of your improvement structures. Be sure to include a gate or two for easy access. Next, build your second layer of walls a little further out. You want less space between the first and second walls so that you may maximize the reach of your towers and other defenses. Make just enough room between the layers, so you can squeeze in more carpenter huts and masonries alongside your arrow towers.

Building Your Defenses
Now that the core base is set up, you’ll want to continue investing in improvements to get access to more defenses. One of the more important improvements to get isCollect Power Towers, which allows you to collect Ancient Host Towers once you find them on the map. There arelimited Ancient Towers availableto be discovered, so while your building team is working on the base, ensure your other team is trying to find the Ancient Towers while they are gathering resources. For more info on these towers, check out ourAncient Towers Guide.
Ancient Towers should be placed in a central position in your base to maximize their effectiveness.

Next, set up some anti-air defenses near the well. As you begin placing towers around the perimeter, attempt to pair up the basic arrow towers with the scatter towers to maximize their effectiveness. When constructing the towers, pay attention to their reach and set them up so that there is some overlap. You can also build aSpyglassimprovement to extend their reach and aBattle Drumto increase their firing speed. Depending on how large your base is, you may end up having a couple of dozen towers in total by the time you are done. If necessary, you can always send one of the builders out to gather nearby supplies to help keep you stocked and always building.

Mounting Your Attack
Now that you are properly secured, you’ll want to start preparing to attack the enemy base. Chances are, they are not far behind you in their progress, so you’ll need to be prepared for the worst when you begin your attack. You’ll want to keep your team divided up so that half is defending while half attacks. If you are playing a 4v4 round, you can have three players attack while one defends, but just be ready to send a person or two back to base if it starts getting attacked.
The attacking members of your team should bring a combination of mob types with them. For starters, you’ll want about half of your force to be made up ofCobblestone Golems. They are the best for taking down defenses and will last longer than the creepers. The other half of the army should be made up of attacking mobs like theGrindstone GolemsandZombies. You are almost certainly going to have to fight the enemy’s mobs in addition to taking down their walls, so be prepared to do battle.
Lastly, you’ll want to build aRedstone Launcherbefore you begin toppling the enemy’s walls. The launcher allows you to focus a ranged attack from just outside the enemy base. Depending on how large their base is, you may be able to aim it right at their well and drain its health without even having to enter their base. Just keep in mind they may do this to you as well, so if you ever notice your well is being attacked with no one around, do a sweep of the surrounding area and take out the launcher with your cobblestone golems.
