Metal Gear Solidis one of the most popular gaming franchises, andMetal Gear Solid 5is the last game from Hideo Kojima in the series before the gaming auteur parted ways with Konami and Kojima Productions went independent.MGS5has been praised for its gameplay, open world, and more.

While several things didn’t go well with the players about the game, the main change was the English voice of Snake, as the long-time voice actor and writer ofMetal Geartitles, David Hayter, was replaced by actor Keifer Sutherland. Hayter had not played the game since its release, presumably largely because of that, and now he has revealed that he finally played the game.
English Voice Actor for Snake, David Hayter, Finally Plays Metal Gear Solid V
David Hayter was the English voice actor for Snake inMetal Gear Solidsince the game’s release in 1998 and voiced the character until the 2010 installment,Peace Walker. However, the actor was surprisingly absent fromMGS 5: The Phantom Painas the voice of Snake and was replaced by Keifer Sutherland.
Hayter had not played the game since its release back in 2015; however, in a surprising turn of events that nobody would have expected, he has finally playedMGS5after 8 years and shared his thoughts on the game. Hayter took to X/Twitter and posted that he played the game after putting it off for years and has enjoyed it. Thetweetreads:

Alright, I put it off for years… But Laryngitic Snake aside? This game’s pretty fun. (Shakes fist at sky) “KOJIMAAAAAA!!”
The hardcoreMetal Gear Solidfans would know that“pretty fun”is a reference to Snake’s popular line,“You’re pretty good,”which he says in various installments. He also added that Laryngitic Snake, which is a common verdict, also screams Kojima, and make what you will of that.

Hayter being replaced inMGS5was a shocking change that surprised everyone in the community, and when the game finally released, it didn’t even have the character speak much. The announcement that Hayter would be replaced by Sutherland was met with mixed reactions, and fans criticized the developers for not having Hayter voice the character.
Hayter confirmed that he is not in the game, saying,“I had a good run,”and revealed that he was not asked to reprise his role. He later also said that he had to re-audition for the role as series creator Kojima was looking to replace Hayter for a long time as the voice of the character, but it wasn’t known what the actual reason was behind the change.

Hayter recently appeared to promote theMetal Gear Solid Master Collection, which was released back in October this year, and fans have been left wondering if Konami is cooking something with David Hayter as the voice actor says,“This is only the beginning.”Fans are hard at work to speculate what it meant, and maybe he is voicing Snake inMGS Delta, but nothing can be said for certain until the publisher or Hayter confirms.
MGS5: The Phantom Painreceived positive reviews upon release and was praised for its gameplay mechanics, open-world, freedom it gave to the players, impressive graphics, and more. However, many fans also found the story of the game very boring and criticized how it had a very predictable ending.

There were also no boss fights in the game, which had been a constant feature ofMGSgames, and although the sniper battle with Quiet was appreciated, it was nowhere near the boss fights inMGS 3. Fans also added that several missions in the game were repetitive, which made it feel incomplete, and after the perfect ending inMGS IV, it just didn’t make sense how the narrative fell apart.
