Mel Gibson’s Hollywood career went downhill thanks to a slew of controversies that followed the actor. However, there have been multiple occasions where the actor has questioned why he has been blacklisted by Hollywood to begin with.

The actor has been largely removed from Hollywood and all of their projects, having said some wild things about the LGBT and Jewish communities. Further, the actor was apologetic for his actions but also wondered when he would be forgiven by the industry, which has largely refused to work with him.
Mel Gibson thinks hisLethal Weapon 5script is the best the franchise has to offer
Mel Gibsontalked about hisLethal Weapon 5, and how according to the star, the film is worth being made, because it is the best the franchise has to offer. Speaking toABC, he said:
The fifth one is written. It’s interesting. It’s been held up for one reason or another. There’s always issues with these things. I think it’s the best one of the whole series. But it just won’t get made for some reason or another. I can’t even explain why.

Lethal Weapon 5could still do pretty well in theatres, given that films likeJohn Wickhave proven that the action thriller genre is not completely dead. However, Mel Gibson might have a tough time getting a proper film off the ground, even after the success he has had with films likeHacksaw Ridge.
Andrew Garfield is among the actors who believe Mel Gibson deserves a second chance
There haven’t been a lot of actors that have stood up for Mel Gibson. The only high-profile actors who have displayed a semblance of sympathy for Gibson are the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Andrew Garfield. Both these actors have said multiple times that Gibson should get a second chance, with Garfield even having worked with the actor onHacksaw Ridge. He said (via Variety):
I learned that everyone deserves respect. And that people deserve second chances, third chances, fourth chances. That none of us are infallible.

Andrew Garfield believes that Gibson does deserve a second chance, in a way that allows him to work with the industry again. Robert Downey Jr. has also advocated for the same, given that the actor himself thrived on a second chance, kick-starting his dying career withIron Man.
