Since Nova’s initial tease in 2018, details have been pretty scarce about the character’s debut in the MCU. However, last year, Kevin Feige finally broke his silence on the project, adding that a Disney Plus series featuring Richard Rider was on its way. But considering it’s still years away, it’s safe to assume that the MCU is saving the cosmic force for the next big chapter.

As for what its direction will be, according to new reports, the MCU is reportedly eying to add ’80s military movie vibes to the Nova Corps, which will be in line with Starship Troopers.
The Nova TV show is apparently heading inStarship Troopers‘ direction
WhenStarship Trooperswas initially released, it was accused of promoting militarism. However, in the following years, the film was reevaluated and earned a cult status for its satirical commentary on fascism and authoritarian governance. While the MCU has mostly avoided leaning towards such heavy topics, according to@MyTimeToShineH, they are reportedly eying to take theStarship Troopers‘ route, with Annihilation as the big bad for theTV show.

Moreover, the scoop further alleged that the MCU had apparently instructed the writers (presumably its showrunner Edward Bernero) to capture the energy of 80s military movies, thus the reportedStarship Troopersanalogy.
Here are some Nova details:Marvel reached out to writers and asked them to pitch for Nova tv show with Annihilus as the main villain in mind. They also requested the story to feel “young and sexy,” capturing the energy of 80s military movies. One pitch was essentially Starship…pic.twitter.com/AD2o6KVnQY

Although it can’t be said for certain how much of it’ll translate into the actual product, considering the show is still years away, one should take these reports with a grain of salt.
James Gunn felt Richard Rider was too big forGuardians of the Galaxy
Before the confirmation of a Nova-centric series, many felt that theGuardiansmovies would mark Richard Rider’s entry into the MCU, given its cosmic setting. When asked why he didn’t consider putting Nova into theGuardians,James Gunnshared (viaPhase Zero) that Richard Rider was too big of a character to incorporate in a film about a bunch of misfits.

On top of that, theSupermanfilmmaker wasn’t comfortable with the idea of having two human characters on the team.
He’s just too big of a character, and he seemed too … I didn’t want to … From the beginning, when I came on board Guardians, I didn’t want to have two human beings. I wanted to have one human being so that he could be surrounded in this world of aliens, and then we realized little by little that all of these characters are the only of their kind; they’re the only human being to them, you know?

While theGuardianstrilogy didn’t break a sweat over the character’s absence, as they became household names themselves, hopefully, the MCU will do justice to the cosmic force.
