Star Wars might not have had a lot of fan support these past few years. However, the films still managed to rake in a lot of money at the box office, remaining one of Dinsey’s most lucrative franchises. However, there was one film that never managed to be the bee’s knees for the franchise, despite George Lucas’ involvement in the project.

Solo: A Star Wars Story, the second installment of the Star Wars Anthology series of films that Disney shelved, had the lowest box office numbers of a Star Wars film, largely due to factors like not wanting the film to compete with Infinity War’s marketing cycle. However, George Lucas’ involvement should have at least merited a better environment for the film to be nurtured in.
It was George Lucas who came up with the idea of making a Solo solo-film
George Lucas originally thought about tellingSolo‘s story before Disney was in the picture to buy Lucasfilm. The visionary director took his ideas to Lawrence Kasdan, who then wrote the screenplay before George Lucas. This was revealed on the YouTube channelStar War Theory, which had screenwriter Stuart Beattie on it. Writer of the now-scrapped Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy of films, he said:
He was partially involved in Solo, because he was the one who started that. He brought that to Larry Kasdan… It was already in development when they bought it from George.

Geroge Lucas‘ contribution got the project bought out by Disney along with Lucasfilm, which culminated in the Star Wars Anthology film that was finally released in 2018. However, The reviews that it got from fans have been largely pinned on Alden Ehrenreich, who was brilliant in his role as a young Solo. However, the recasting was apparently what had caused fans to shun the film, at least in Disney’s opinion, and not the fan boycott which stemmed fromKatheleen Kennedy‘s decisions for the franchise.
Star Wars Anthology was the best thing that happened to the franchise
The Star Wars Anthology Series of films might have just ended with two films, butRogue One: A Star Wars Storywas the franchise best for many fans of the IP. DespiteSolo‘s mediocre performance,Rogue Onegot what the franchise was about, and along withAndor, remains some of the best content to come out of the House of Mouse after it acquired the Star Wars IP.

There could have been a lot of fun films on the horizon, surrounding some fan-favorite characters that could have actually helped the franchise recreate its image with fans.Rogue OnespawnedAndor, which is a set of stories that managed to deliver some of the best moments of the franchise. However, with Dinsey having put that to rest permanently, it might be a while before fans see the kind of content that they need from the Star Wars fandom.
