This year’s bloodbath regarding studio layoffs continues, as Deck Nine has announced that it is laying off an undisclosed number of staff members.
The studio behind Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, which was just released this October, penned a letter to fans about the layoffs and cited the challenges companies in the video game sector have endured throughout the year.

Deck Nine Layoffs Hit The Studio Again
The announcement was made onTwitter/X, where Deck Nine said, “We are sad to share the news that we must say goodbye to some of our talented team members. This was an extremely difficult decision and reflects the challenging times many companies our industry are currently facing.”
The studio’s prepared statement also thanks the laid-off personnel, mentions how proud they are of the work they accomplished with the studio, and says they are “committed to supporting” the affected people in this transition as best as the studio can.

Deck Nine ends the note asking the community for support and understanding regarding the layoffs that happened.

What makes this worse for Deck Nine is that this is the studio’s second round of layoffs, with about 20 percent of its staff laid off in February of this year. There’s no word on how many people were affected by the recent round of restructuring, though given the announcement, it seems to be fairly significant if they have to announce it like that.

Deck Nine’s most recent release is Life Is Stange: Double Exposure, which has been met with largely middling reviews. Over onOpen Critic, it’s sitting at a “Fair” rating, with an overall critic recommendation of just 53 percent. Our own reviewleans on the positive side stating, “Despite its shortcomings, Life is Strange: Double Exposure is a promising gift for fans. Its dark mystery narrative requires you to keep track of two separate timelines at most intervals. But there’s enough breathing room to enjoy the usual heartfelt moments of the series.”
When it comes to layoffs, 2024 has been quite brutal with numerous job cuts happening across multiple studios worldwide. The most recent one we reported on is Ubisoft’s culling of over 270 jobsaffecting its San Francisco, Osaska and Sydney offices, amid theshutdown of free-to-play game XDefiant, which was just released earlier this year.
