The storytelling and action of theGod of Warseries has been unmatched in gaming. And all of it comes down to our favorite titular character Kratos. Up to this point, we’ve seen the highest highs and the lowest lows of Kratos’ journey. But there are some parts of the story that still don’t add up.

InGod of War 2, Zeus tricks Kratos into relinquishing his powers into the Blade of Olympus, seemingly leaving him as a vulnerable mortal. Yet, even stripped of godly powers, Kratos continues to fight and kill gods all the same. But how?
Is Kratos TheGod of WarOr Just a Mortal?
Zeus’s decision to take away Kratos’ powers through the Blade of Olympus was supposed to level the playing field. As the story goes, Zeus wanted to ensure his victory by weakening Kratos.
So he lured him into transferring his godly essence into the Blade. But despite this,Kratos’ brute strength and sheer willallow him to fight and defeat gods like Poseidon, Helios, and Hermes.

This has raised the main question among fans. If Kratos was truly mortal at this stage, how could he overpower gods without his divine powers? Even with the Blades of Chaos, which weren’t crafted explicitly to kill gods?
One possible explanation is that Kratos, as a demigod and the son of Zeus, retained innate powers that Zeus couldn’t entirely remove. Even in his mortal state, Kratos displayed extraordinary resilience and strength, facing monsters, warriors, and gods with brutal force.

This retained power could explain his relentless, almost unbreakable physical strength. However, the game never explicitly details how much of Kratos’ power was actually left after Zeus’ betrayal, leaving players to guess why he remained so unstoppable in the face of gods who should have overpowered him.
For instance, Kratos defeats Hercules, a demigod known for immense strength, hinting that Kratos’ power exceeds normal demigod limitations, perhaps through accumulated power-ups or the influence of Pandora’s Box.

God of WarIs a Legendary Franchise, But It Still Has Some Inconsistencies
The magical properties of Kratos’ weapons could also explain part of the mystery. The Blades of Chaos, gifted to him by Ares, are imbued with godly energy. Theoretically, they have some sort of power in them capable of harming immortals. And he has shown thatin his killing spree.
But these weapons are not explicitly designed to slay gods. At least, not in the same way as mythological artifacts like Zeus’s lightning bolt. Kratos’ use of these weapons to defeat multiple gods seems to imply a level of power inherent to him, rather than any magical properties of the weapons themselves.

The game’s setting in Greek mythology plays a role in supporting Kratos’ seemingly paradoxical power. Mythology is filled with examples of heroes defying expectations, andGod of Warfollows this tradition. But the series strays from accuracy for the sake of narrative freedom, which can lead to inconsistencies like this.
Kratos’s continued strength after Zeus strips his powers reflects his character’s symbolic resistance against fate, but it also muddles the rules within the game’s universe. So which one is true? How is it possible? Did the creators do this to add depth to Kratos’ myth or simply overlook the discrepancy?
Kratos’ journey is legendary, but questions like these do make us look at the fine print. What do you think of this ‘plothole’? Let us know in the comments!
