Time flies doesn’t it? And Kojima Productions brought that to the forefront of my late-night thinking yesterday when the studio celebrated its 1-year anniversary sinceÂDeath Strandingfirst launched on the PS4.Taking to Twitter, Kojima Productions shared a tweet featuring a celebratory “high-five” from members of the team alongside the art of Sam Porter Bridges and the text, “1 Year Anniversary”.“One year ago,  our first developed titleÂDeath Strandinglaunched on PS4,” it reads. The studio thanked fans and encouraged them to share high-fives, keeping with the whole “connected” theme that’s present in the game. Clever.

Kojima Productions was originally a subsidiary of Konami, but wasclosed back in 2015and some other complicated business matters that went on around that time. Hideo Kojima, however, started upKojima Productionsas an independent studio later that year in December when heannounced a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. He alsoshowed off a new logoat that time that has been created by veteranMetal Gear SolidCharacter, Environment, and Mecha Designer Yoji Shinkawa.

Hideo began working on thestudio’s first game, which wasrevealed in 2016 to beDeath Stranding. The reveal trailer featured Norman Reedus cradling a baby in his arms as he sobs. For the years that followed, we were drip-fed information aboutDeath Stranding, but we still didn’t know a whole lot except that the game was to be a PS4 exclusive. Fans went into investigation mode, trying to decipher tweets they believed to be cryptic, celebrities started to announce that they had played the game and sang praise about it, but we still had no idea what the game was about.

Hideo Kojima in 2016celebrated the 1-year anniversaryof starting Kojima Productions up as an independent studio, and in 2018 hereflected even more on that time.It was in 2019 that we got a PS4 release date forDeath Stranding, with the highly-anticipatedcelebrity cameo-festtitleslated to launch on July 29, 2025.The game went on to quickly become thesecond biggest PS4 title to launch in 2019.

It was then announced that the game would be a PS4 exclusive for a certain period of time, with its exclusivity coming to an endin Summer 2020when the game was to be launching on PC. While it was confirmed toarrive in June, the coronavirus pandemic saw the launchpushed to July.

The game has been a hugely successful first title for Kojima Productions, and there has been confirmation that the studio is now underway ona brand-new project.

Have you enjoyed theÂDeath Strandingjourney? Are you excited to see what games come from the studio next?
