While the news of this decade-long franchise is heart-breaking, it also made otakus look forward to a smashing finale. But the question residing in everyone’s hearts is: Will MyHero Academiareceive a sequel? In an interview with Viz Media, Horikoshi clarified all there is to know about aMy Hero Academiasequel.

Kohei Horikoshi Hints atMy Hero AcademiaSpinoff Ideas

In theinterview with Viz Media,Kohei Horikoshiwas asked if there were any characters or stories that he wanted to explore. The author answered that it’s not an issue of getting a chance, but he does have some characters and their backstories ready at hand, which he didn’t include in the plot.

I have detailed stories for the previous inheritors of One For All. I intentionally left these out.

One For All has had eight inheritorsbefore Deku. The power was originally possessed by Yoichi Shigaraki and was later hosted by Kudo, Bruce, Hikage, Daigoro, En, Nana, and Toshinori (All Might). Given that we already know a lotabout All Might,Horikoshi must have been referring to the seven users before him. Not much is explored about them in the story other than their powers, so a spinoff of each user would be a pleasant surprise.

However, Horikoshi has dropped another bombshell by admitting that while he has the stories ready, he might never act on them. According to the author, he is more comfortable withhinting at the backgroundsrather than drawing them completely. He uses Terminator 2 as an example to explain his point of view.

For instance, in Terminator 2, John Connor becomes a leader in the future, and Schwarzenegger’s character is sent from that future world. But there aren’t many depictions of the future itself. Because the future isn’t depicted in detail, the viewers’ imaginations expand, and I thought that was really great.

So Kohei Horikoshi wants to create a similar atmosphere in which the readers’ minds will be stimulated without having to spell things out for them.

Will Kohei Horikoshi Create aMy Hero AcademiaSpinoff or Sequel?

According to his interview, Kohei Horikoshi seems to be strongly against creating a spinoff series forMy Hero Academia. He wants to let his readers’ imaginations run wild rather than restricting them to specific background stories. But at the same time, he has not completely admitted anything about a sequel series.

This My Hero Academia Theory is Mind-boggling: Kohei Horikoshi is Hiding Izuku Midoriya’s Original Quirk He Has Had Even Before One For All

Let’s take Masashi Kishimoto’sNarutoandBoruto, for example. At first, the author was against the sequel and pushed the responsibility off to Mikio Ikemoto, his assistant. Ukyo Kodachi, the director of theBoruto movie, created the plot while Ikemoto illustrated it for some time. But a year later, Masashi Kishimoto took over the writing responsibility again due to the failure of his new project as well as to save theBorutouniverse.

Thus, time can change anyone and nothing is fixed. Kohei Horikoshi might change his mind later and actually draw a sequel, or he might provide fans with more spinoffs about the different characters. Nonetheless, it will take till the end ofMy Hero Academiaor more to know if Horikoshi really has any further plans or not.
