Not many anime series have ever been in the position to change the general landscape of animation forever. However, Kohei Horikoshi’s magnum opus,My Hero Academiahas reached unprecedented heights, redefining the modern Shonen genre and appealing to fans all over the world. Beneath the explosion of action sequences and vibrant visuals, is a masterfully crafted world teeming with complex, yet very easy-to-relate heroes whose journeys really resonate deep.

Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia

As the final chapter of the manga has come to a close, the heartbreak was immeasurable when Izuku Midoriya, aka Deku, lost his Quirk in unforgiving circumstances. This bold narrative twist that defied readers’ expectations made Deku the most iconic hero who proved that true strength lies beyond superhuman powers.

What Made Deku Lose His Quirk?

After the conclusion of the series, Deku ended up being the ninth and last user of the powerful Quirk, One For All, which he won through an inheriting process from All Might. He was the former who got it from his own master, Nana Shimura. Deku devotedly trained his mind and body to control this powerful ability, driving himself to limits nobody else did. Despite One For All being hard to control at first, Deku eventually managed it, probably being the most prominent user in theMy Hero Academiaseries.

In anincredible plot twistthough, Deku lost his One For All Quirk in the final battle against Shigaraki. To defeat him, Deku transferred the vestiges of the Quirk to Shigaraki, making Shigaraki face his traumatic past. As All For One took over, Deku, now Quirkless, relied on the remaining embers of One For All to secure his ultimate victory. This is the definitive moment where Deku firmly stamped his name as a true hero, proving that inner strength and tenacity do unlock far greater powers than superhuman abilities.

My Hero AcademiaGave The Most Fitting Conclusion to Everyone’s Beloved Hero

The sheer narrative brilliance of taking away Deku’s powers propelled him to legendary hero status in theMy Hero Academiauniverse. The poignancy of this twist was touched and handed over to the fans, as they ended up commenting on social media about their awe at this conclusion.

The ending to MHA was great and the hate for it was unjustified

I just wish we saw a-bit more of it before the ending but I agree. I’ve always respected All Might and the One For All Vestiges for being able to give away that power, and both Izuku and his Mentor ending up Quirkless and still being heroes after that question in s1? Brilliant.

While some fans wished for more buildup to this pivotal moment, the impact still remains undeniable. Deku’s quest, bracketed by the question asked in Season 1, “Can a hero exist without a Quirk?” comes full circle.

As anime fans continue to wait for the later installments of the series, manga readers can reassure them to have a worthy patience for it. With such a brilliant storytelling decision, it has left a lasting imprint in the series, for now and ever, changing what it means to be a hero.
