Currently, the studio’s hiring page has listings for seven positions — three in programming, three in art, and one in design — including a senior level designer and a lead artist. That increase in high-level positions could suggest that the studio is ramping up development for more high-profile projects, and it comes at an opportune time for Kaiko, assweeping layoffs have just hitmajor studios likeBethesdaand343 Industries, which should cause an increase in the number of talented people in the prospective hiring pool.

The game is set in a fantasy world with a 10,000-year backstory, and it centers around the courts of the fae. Players start off as classless humans or elves, but they can grow their characters into a variety of fighter, rogue, or mage-like builds through skill progression.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was the only game by original publisher/developer38 Studios, which shut down and declared bankruptcy just months after releasing the game in 2012. The studio’s founder, Curt Schilling, had reported that the game had sold 1.2 million copies within 90 days of release, but the gamewould have needed to sell 3 millionfor the company to break even, quashing Schilling’s reported plans to develop a sequel.

THQ Nordic’s acquisition of the intellectual property rights in 2018 and released the remastered Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning on consoles and PC between 2020 and 2021, including producing DLC expansions for the game.
