Xbox One players can now experience the entireKingdom Heartsstory from start to finish.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 RemixandKingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologuereleased digitally for the system on Tuesday, coinciding with the announcement thatKingdom Hearts IIIwill be coming to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service next week.
Both HD compilations combined offer six games and three movies to run through, and Tuesday’s launch marks the first time that any of them are playable on an Xbox console.
Here’s a quick recap of what’s included in each package. (warning for the unfamiliar: some convoluted-sounding titles are ahead):
Aside from three of its portable entries – originally released on the GameBoy Advance (Chain of Memories), Nintendo DS (358/2 Days), and Nintendo 3DS (Dream Drop Distance) – Square Enix’s ambitious Disney crossoverhas always been a PlayStation-centric franchise, withIIIbeing the first to go multi-platform when it launched at the beginning of last year.
In the lead-up toIII, series director Tetsuya Nomura and his team produced the HD collections as a convenient means to keep fans and newcomers alike caught up with a story that saw multiple entries on multiple consoles over a 17-year span. However, the compilations only received PS3 and then PS4 versions up until now, leaving Xbox players in the dark heading into the long-awaited final chapter.
Although it’s all after the fact, bringing the rest of theKingdom Heartstitles overto the Xbox One will still make the series more accessible, giving fans another way to go back through Sora’s long (and still ongoing) adventure , whether it’s for the first time or the 1,000th.
Speaking of,Kingdom Hearts III’s ReMindDLCwill also release for the Xbox One next Tuesday, Feb. 25, the same day the game is slated to hit Game Pass.
This isn’t the end for the franchise either.TheDark Roadmobile experience, focused on series antagonist Xehanort, is on the way. And Nomura teased last month thatthere’s much more in the works.
