Washing your clothes and staying clean is another example of this deep realism present in KCD2.

Having dirty clothes is serious business. If you smell too badly or are covered in too much blood and dirt, people will notice. This can lock you out of dialogue with NPCs and certain quest lines as a result and also tanks your charisma stat until you’re clean again.

With cleanliness being next to Godliness really being driven home in this title, let’s take a closer look at how to keep your clothes laundered and fresh. You have two options.

You can wash yourself off at various troughs and tubs throughout the game, but this is a half-measure. To completely and properly clean your clothes, you’ll need to choose one of the options below.

How To Wash Your Own Clothing

Option number one is to wash your own clothing items yourself. To make this happen, you’ll need to acquire some soap. You can either buy soap or craft your own.

Buying Soap

Soapcan be purchased from certain merchants, and the easiest one to track down first is Merchant Jurg Thomel in Troskowitz.

Unfortunately, soap is a little pricey at a cost of 18.1 Groschen per bottle, but that’s the price you pay for luxury.

Soap can sometimes also be found at laundry spots around the world, so be sure to have a thorough look around when a new laundry location is discovered.

Like food in your inventory, soap also degrades in quality over time. You’ll see its quality percentage denoted by a heart icon. Be sure to use your soap while it’s still in good condition for maximum effectiveness.

Making Your Own Soap

If you’re into sustainability, a recipe for soap can also be purchased, so you can just make your own laundry detergent.

Head to Apothecary Emerich in Troskowitz, and he has a basic soap recipe for sale for 131 Groschen. Haggle the price down if you please, as long as you still walk away with the recipe.

In your inventory, find the soap recipe you’ve acquired and hold down the command button to actually learn the recipe. You’ll then be prompted to have a look at what you just learned, so do your best to memorize each step in the brewing process.

The recipe requires two thistles, one dandelion, and one charcoal. If you have these items on hand, head to an alchemy bench and get to work. If you find yourself lacking ingredients, the garden just outside Apothecary Emerich’s shop has plenty of thistle and dandelion, and Emerich himself sells charcoal for 0.5 Groschen per unit.

There’s an alchemy bench on Emerich’s property that you’re free to use.

If you’ve done everything properly, you’ll be rewarded with your very own, homemade soap.

Heading To A Laundry Spot

Now that you have your soap, you need to find a place to wash your clothes. There are many laundry spots you’ll come across, and they always become marked on your map upon discovery.

The first one you’re able to come across is in Troskowitz at a small pond on the eastern side of town.

Approach the end of the pier at the pond, and you’ll have two options — wash yourself or launder your clothes.

Washing yourself is the same as simply splashing water on your face at a trough, so you’ll want to fully launder your clothing items here instead.

Choosing to launder your clothes brings up a menu to select everything you’d like to wash.

In the top right of this menu, you’ll notice a counter that says 0.0/1.0. This is the strength of your soap and denotes how many items you can wash at once.

Each dirty clothing item you’re holding has a number in the far right column to show how much soap is needed to wash this item.

You’re able to select as many clothing items as you’d like to launder at once until you reach the maximum use of your soap.

Select your items to clean, press Square to confirm, and your clothes will immediately be spotless.

Visiting The Baths

The other option to have your clothes cleaned is to visit a bathhouse. The most easily accessible bathhouse at the beginning of the game is at the Zhelejov Wagoner’s Inn and is owned by a woman named Dorothy.

Speak with her and say “I need some bathhouse services.”

From here, you’ll have three choices that each cost a different amount of Groschen.

Normal Bath

Fully Cleaned Clothes and Henry

Bath Plus Wounds Treatment

Same As Above Plus Aid For Bleeding And Damage

Full Service

Everything Above Plus Time Well Spent Buff

Every option you may choose will launder Henry’s clothes back to pristine condition. Choosing the Full Service option also bestows the Time Well Spent Buff on Henry, which raises his strength, agility, and vitality by one for a lengthy period of time.

When using the services of a bathhouse, only the clothes you’re wearing will be laundered. To wash more clothes at once, the better option is to do it yourself at a laundry spot if you have the soap to spare.
