Now, the 16-time world champion in WWE has a little surprise for Cenation, which is not so great. Everyone’s beloved Cena is eyeing retirement, and it’s not far away—it’s coming at us in the next few years.

John Cena, who made his WWE debut 22 years ago in 2002, dropped retirement news. He revealed that he plans on retiring by the age of 50. Confirming toEntertainment Tonighton Tuesday, the wrestling champ himself said:
“I made a promise to the consumer early on, to WWE fans, ’cause I know how tough it is to be a fan. You gotta come out of pocket — & WWE has a ton of content — it takes a lot to be a passionate fan & our fanbase is passionate & global. I never wanted to go out there just for the sake of going out there. And I’m gonna be 47 this year. I feel great. So inside I feel great, but I know what it takes to be a WWE performer night in & night out & I don’t ever wanna just go out there & do it to do it. I wanna have the passion — the same passion as the fanbase — & I wanna give them exactly what they give me. The miles on the speedometer say, ‘Hey, that’s gotta be done before 50’, [that’s] the timeline I’ve put on myself.”
But fans need not worry. Cena might be dropping hints about retirement, but it’s not a total goodbye. He still has plans to make appearances.
“I’ve had at least one match every year in WWE for the past 23 years,”Cena added.“I’ve never missed a year, and as long as I can perform, I don’t intend to miss a year.”So, he’s not about to break the streak.

John Cena signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 2001. After winning his first WWE Championship in 2005, he later became a joint-record 15-time world champion. The California native is a wrestling overachiever who holds various championship titles.
