Jim Ryan was the Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment for the past 5 years and was burdened with the glorious purpose of leading the PlayStation brand to the future. The gaming industry is a cut-throat business and major companies should have prepared all the tools and toys game developers would need to manifest their creative vision into reality.

Most game developers want a console that allows them to build worlds in great detail without any technical drawbacks. Ryan wanted to make that dream a reality and allegedly signed a contract with AMD to power the PlayStation 6, back in 2022.
Former Sony Boss Jim Ryan Future Proofs the PlayStation 6 by Signing a Contract With AMD
Recently, Sony officially unveiled the first look of the highly rumored PlayStation 5 Pro with a brief 9-minute talk from the lead system architect Mark Cerny. Cerny noted how most game developers came knocking on his door and demanded a much more powerful gaming console that was better than the base and slim models of the current PlayStation 5. The Pro console can do everything the base models can do but better, and Cerny used first-party titles likeThe Last of Us Part 2 Remasteredtoshowcase the differences and it was night and day.
It would make sense for Ryan to provide Cerny with a powerful chip for the PS6 to continue building hype and dominating the competition.AMD reportedly secured a contract withSony worth billions in revenue for the next generation leaving Intel at the back end of the race. Intel was gunning hard to take a piece of the massive pie in the gaming industry; unfortunately, their product will not offer Sony or Jim Ryan any benefits for the next generation.

The gaming community is now interested in what Sony will show with the PS6. More horsepower is equivalent to a better gaming experience and AMD has the capabilities to deliver. Rumor has it that if Jim Ryan were to sign a contract with Intel, the idea of backward compatibility would be blown out of the water. Fans have been begging Sony to implement a feature in current PlayStations to use older discs from previous generations, something Microsoft accomplished years ago.

Intel’s previous GPUs were lackluster and most gaming companies wouldn’t invest in a much weaker processing chip. AMD has had a solid foundation with Sony Interactive Entertainment since the PlayStation 4 that carried over to the PlayStation 5 and it would make sense for Ryan to stick to the formula and count on them for the PS6.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Is Committed to Making the PS6 With AMD
While the specs ofthe PlayStation 5 Pro model are said to feature cutting-edge technology, The current PlayStation CEO, Hideaki Nishino is likely to save the best bits and parts for the next generation. The PS5 was released four years ago and is halfway through the console life cycle, Nishino and Cerny will have their hands full focusing on the future and playing their cards properly by choosing AMD over Intel.

The gaming industry is said to reacha valuation of 282 billion dollars later this yearand Intel is missing out on all that cheddar. Game development is a costly venture and making the processors for these powerful gaming machines can cost a fortune. AMD struck gold with the contract with Sony and will pioneer the future.
Jim Ryan has been in the industry long enough to realize who to bet on, and AMD has gotten Sony through two great generations. Hopefully, the streak will continue for generations.
