Jensen AcklesandJared Padaleckiwere questioned at SeaCon16 (viaYouTube) if their on-screenSupernaturalcharacters’ personalities and mannerisms ever ‘bleed into’ reality.
This led Ackles to first preface,“I’d say it’s more likely for Jensen and Jared to cross over into Dean and Sam,”That, however, didn’t imply that the 45-year-old hasn’t ever let the iconic ‘voice’ slip out in IRL scenarios. Whenever he did do so, though, it usually led to the actor’s wife, Danneel Ackles, calling him out on it and advising him not to speak like his on-screen character.
However, there were also times, theSupernaturalstar asserted, when the fellow actress andOne Tree Hillstar didn’t seem to mind the ‘Dean voice’ all too much.In a rather TMI moment, Jensen Ackles revealed:
“There have been times … Sometimes, I get called out by my wife [Danneel Ackles]. She’s like, ‘Don’t talk like Dean. Don’t use that voice up in here.’ Then, there [are] other times where she’s like, ‘Do it like Dean…'”
As you may have guessed, the suggestive implications of the comment sent the crowd into a frenzy.
This led Jared Padalecki to chime in,“She was a big Gilmore Girls fan! It’s not a big deal.”Clever reference, indeed. In the comedy-drama television series, Padalecki played a character named Dean Forester. Clearly, he couldn’t have passed up the opportunity to crack that joke.
The two friends shared a hilarious look with each other, before Ackles said:

Padalecki, speculating a similar reaction from their partners, said,“We married idiots. Send.”

It goes without saying that this was their usual banter, and neither Genevieve Padalecki nor Danneel Ackles had to think about ‘an out’ as the two couples have continued to remain happily married. It was during theSupernaturalaudition that the two stars crossed paths. However, there was one unusual thing about this audition, and it demonstrates that it may have been fate that intended for the two to become the definitive demon-hunting Winchester brothers. During the same convention, Padalecki and Ackles were asked to share their first impressions of one another (viaYouTube).
The latter said with his dry wit,“I was like, ‘Wow, this guy is really tall and skinny,'”Padalecki, choosing to offer a more in-depth recollection of the two actors’ first meeting, stated:
“Within the span of a week or something, we were reading for the heads of the network … We show up, and usually, when you get an audition, it’s a horrifically anxiety-inducing process. Since the audition was naturally touted as a ‘big Warner Brothers’ pilot, Jared Padalecki was convinced he would walk into a room full of everyone he had ever seen on television or in films. That didn’t end up being the case, though.
Apparently, he and soon-to-be on-screen brother Jensen Ackles were the only ones who showed up. This even made the latter wonder at the time,“Where is everybody else?”
Nonetheless, the two connected immediately after discovering they had plenty in common. Not only did they bond over being native to Texas, but they also shared the same team they support (Dallas Cowboys) and the same genre of songs they enjoyed (country music). If that isn’t destiny, what is?

Ultimately, with no other candidates competing for the roles of Sam and Dean, Padalecki and Ackles were called back to read for ’30 executives’ and eventually became the Winchester brothers their fans grew to love and cherish.
Although the show concluded in 2020, the on-screen brothers made some remarks recently that fueled hopes of a potential series revival among fans (viaCollider). Whether or not such plans are realized remains to be seen, though.
