At last night’s Sony State of Play, a new trailer was released for the upcoming remaster ofUntil Dawn. Horror fans finally got a good look at what the port of the beloved 2015 game for PC andPS5would look like, including its enhanced graphics.

Given a complete makeover in the way of improved animations and detailed environments as well as being powered by Unreal Engine 5, Until Dawn Remaster has set itself up to shine brightly on next-gen consoles, but not everyone was happy with developer Ballistic Moon’s trailer. Some viewers couldn’t tell the difference between the PS4 version and the PS5 port, arguing that the game really didn’t need a remaster in the first place.

In a post on Twitter/X byDonTheBombwho asked if the remaster’s graphics were good or not, comments turned to the dark side of Ballistic Moon’s PS5 port unveiling. Many of the comments stated that the game just didn’t need a remaster as it looked fine as it was, while others thought that the “character models look worse” and hated “the lighting because it’s too dark and the snowy atmosphere of the original is gone.”

Another comment stated that from what they had seen from the trailer, it just wasn’t “enough of an upgrade to make it worth buying” as they already had the original PS4 version that worked perfectly fine.@ollympiaaa_believed that “remastering a game that was already holding up fine as it was, wasn’t necessary” as they’d want to see newer games coming out with better graphics than what was shown from Until Dawn.

There’s also the fact that games are obviously very expensive and if the majority of players don’t see any value in spending $70 on an older game that they feel doesn’t offer them anything different from its original title, they could cause some sales issues.

On the other hand, if Sony and Ballistic Moon only charged $10 to those who already own Until Dawn, like what happened with The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, that could certainly entice this otherwise frustrated and concerned playerbase.
