Every day, many fans engage in heated debates about which game is the best or most influential. But there is actually an objective way to win this argument, as only a handful of games make it into New York’s prestigious World Video Game Hall of Fame. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeis one of those games thatgot inducted into this esteemed institutionjust last year, cementing its position as one of gaming’s very best.
You’d think a game like this would be perfect and not warrant any changes or modifications, but apparently, modders think differently. Three die-hard fans–Junnosuke9, Shoopey, and Col0Korn–couldn’t get enough of base Ocarina and decided to make afull-fledged sequel called The Sealed Palace(totally free to download and play). Fans have been enjoying it since it got released on March 30, and many might have already forgotten abouthow anticipated they wereforTears of the Kingdom(or not, depending on who you ask).

To clarify something important, The Sealed Palace is not really a game, but a mod for the original Ocarina of Time. Fans will need togo to Romhacking.netand download the mod, then patch it into the original US version of the Ocarina N64 rom. It is practically a new game though, as it provides players with completely new environments, dungeons, mini-dungeons, and puzzle areas (it has a completely new soundtrack as well).
The Scared Palance isn’t also lacking in detail.Several reviews have praisedhow this mod is not a lazy interpretation of Ocarina’s charm, and how the developers have paid great attention to detail in every single location and dungeon. As for side content, there are 100 Skulltula tokens to find and 20 hearts to collect, which should keep fans occupied for quite some time until the official new Zelda arrives (Theaverage YouTube playtimeis at least 20 hours for a full run).
This isn’t the first time fans have tried something like this, andwe’ve already gotten our handsbefore on another mod that attempted to bridge the gap between Ocarina of Time and its official sequel, Majora’s Mask. It also seems that Nintendo isn’t really hell-bent on taking down these mods like therecent Breath of the Wild multiplayer incident, and they’re still up on Romhacking, so it’s safe to say that there’s no time limit on when players can enjoy Ocarina of Time mods and The Sacred Palace experience for the time being.
