Usually, falling from a terrible height will result in one’s immediate demise. It would have been convenient tocarry downed allies inHelldivers 2and then drag them to a safe area for medical attention.
Fortunately, it is still a video game, and subject to many other inconsistencies that could save more lives than expected. Some players found a way to save themselves from guaranteed death by emoting while in the air before making contact with the ground.

Granted, a player will still sustain minor injuries upon impact but they can shake it off and finish the job. There is no explanation other than the emote animation managed to protect a player from more serious injuries. It seems to be a bug or malfunction in the system that the developers may later fix in a future update.
