Chris Carter brought the science fiction dramaThe X-Filesto the Fox screens in 1993 and presented a world of supernatural fiction and mystery. The show revolves around FBI agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, with the latter also being an ardent conspiracy theorist. While Scully is more interested in science and logic, Mulder on the other hand has a complete mistrust in the government and believes that they are always hiding something.

This is something that Americans can relate to as well, as the same theme was used by Donald Trump as well, which ultimately helped him win the 2024 Presidential elections.
The X-Files Theme That Helped Donald Trump Win the Presidential Elections
After its premiere in 1993,The X-Filesquickly garnered the attention of the viewers with its eerie conspiracy theories and science fiction. The show centered around FBI agents Fox Mulder, who was a firm believer in paranormal activities and conspiracies, and Dana Scully, who used to debunk his conspiracy theories and apply scientific logic to those phenomena.
Apart from this, Mulder also has a major mistrust of the government, as he feels they are trying to cover up the existence of alien life. On the same subject of mistrust, the creator of the show, Chris Carter, was askedin an interview, “Are we all Mulder now?” Tothis, Carter replied:

It’s funny because I’ve always said it’s Scully’s show. If it weren’t for the science, Mulder would just be another crazy out there, tilting at windmills.
He continued:
So while I believe Mulder’s anti-authority, anti-government bent is certainly the thing that narrowly always wins the day, it is Scully’s rationalism that is absolutely important to what the show is.
The same mistrust of the government theme was widely used byDonald Trumpas well, which ultimately boosted his votes and he managed to win the 2024 elections. Many Americans felt that the government was not working for them, and Trump positioned himself as an outsider who would do his best to challenge the political system.

This message was obviously appealing to the voters who felt disconnected from the Joe Biden government and needed a change. Hence, Trump defeated Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
The Reason Why David Duchovny Said Goodbye to The X-Files
David Duchovny was one of the leads ofThe X-Filesand played a huge role in its popularity. However, the actor abruptly announced his departure from the show in its seventh season. After this, fans started dishing out reasons why the actor might have taken this step. He said the same inanother interviewand added“I always thought five years was enough. Seven years is definitely enough.”
But his time away from the role did not last for very long and he returned to participate in the 2008 movieThe X-Files: I Want to Believe, and also later for the show’s revival in 2016 and 2018. This allowed the actor more flexibility as compared to filming 22-24 episodes every year. Apart from this, in the past, the actor also had major issues with the show’s syndication profits.

And in 1999 he accused 20th Century Fox of cheating him out of millions of dollars. He added, via Entertainment Weekly, “I’m not looking to win the lottery. I’ve fulfilled my contract, and I want them to fulfill theirs.” After a series of back-and-forths, Duchovny and 20th Century Fox eventually settled the case in 2000.
