Jo Koy’s Golden Globes performance met with mixed reactions from other celebrities and the public. His opening monologue during the event did not generate much laughs and rather led to criticism for his incapability to present an entertaining opening. The fact that he blamed the writers of the events for his underwhelming monologue made the situation even worse.

Since the event, Koy has been defending his performance with the fact that he was given the job 10 days before the event. Now, the comedian has doubled down on his courage to host the show under dire circumstances and creating history as the first solo Asian host of the Golden Globes.

“I don’t want to give myself a rating because that’s subjective, you can give me whatever rating you want. I’m gonna give myself an A-plus just based on the courage [to do it]. The history of the show is 81 years. That’s 81 hosts and some repeated. I’m the first Asian to ever solo host. It’s 2024. I’m the first out of 81 years. Sandra Oh was the first co-host, but I was the first solo host,”
People were not impressed with Koy’s response and went on to mock his statements onX. Here are some of the reactions,

Koy’s statements are indeed going to make his detractors more annoyed and he is already considered one of the worst hosts that the Golden Globes has ever had. This has put into question the state of comedians in the industry and whether they are relevant enough to pull off jokes without offending anyone.

Greta Gerwig Agrees With Jo Koy’s Controversial Joke onBarbie
Jo Koy pissed many people during the recent Golden Globes when he made a rather controversial joke aboutBarbie. He made a joke thatBarbieis based on”a plastic doll with big b**bies”, which did not go down well with many in the audience and the general public. Many termed his joke as misogynistic and undoing the very notion that the film was trying to break.
However, director Greta Gerwig seems to understand where Koy is coming from and recently offered her views on the matter. While speaking toBBC Radio 4, Gerwig agreed with Koy’s statements aboutBarbieand also pointed out the difficulties she faced in putting together the film becauseBarbiewas perceived just as a plastic doll. She said,
“Well, he’s (Koy) not wrong. She’s the first doll that was mass-produced with breasts, so he was right on. And you know, I think that so much of the project of the movie was unlikely because it is about a plastic doll.”

As observed, some people do understand the approach of Koy’s jokes and take it for what it is. For some, they find it difficult to take in a joke that may be considered offensive and controversial. Therefore, people’s tastes are different or maybe Hollywood has become rather rigid and is taking things too seriously.
