Joker: Folie à Deuxis out in theatres and so far, has been facing the wrath of critics who don’t think it is as impressive as the last film. For context, Joaquin Phoenix’s OG movie took the world by storm and even got the actor his first Academy Award. However, when he returned to the scene with Lady Gaga, who reprised her role as Harley Quinn, things didn’t quite work in their favor at all.

Joker 2 starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga

Talking about Lady Gaga, we can’t help but bring up the time when she said loud and proud that she was not one of the many feminists in the world. Why? Well, simply because she loves American male culture. Okay…what does that have to do with being a feminist? Regardless, Lady Gaga later backtracked on her words, confusing the world with her ambiguous feminism.

Lady Gaga Once Said She Is Not a Feminist

The word “feminism” has been undeservingly linked to something unwanted. People often look down on the term, believing it and feminists to be man-hating. However, it couldn’t be farther from the misinterpreted definition.

Thus, when celebrities likeLady Gagawho have such a huge fan following denounce the idea of feminism by refusing to be termed a feminist, it seems rather odd doesn’t it? After all, if it wasn’t for feminism, we wouldn’t have had such talented women rule the industry.

Joaquin Phoenix’s Astonishing Move During Joker 2 Interview is So Hilarious, Lady Gaga Spit Out Water Laughing

Back in 2009, Gaga appeared for an interview with a Norwegian reporter where she admitted that she is, in fact, not a feminist. However, just a few moments before making this statement, she contradicted herself by pointing out the clear difference between how people view men and women.

She stated (viaMiami New Times),

You see, if I was a guy, and I was sitting here with a cigarette in my hand, grabbing my crotch and talking about how I make music ’cause I love fast cars and f-cking girls. You’d call me a rock star. But when I do it in my music and in my videos, because I’m a female, because I make pop music, you’re judgmental, and you say that it is distracting. I’m just a rock star.

Kudos to her for calling out the double standards, right? However, soon after making this bold claim, she confused fans by stating,

I’m not a feminist. I, I, I hail men, I love men. I celebrate American male culture, beer, bars, and muscle cars.

Wait, what just happened? Thanks to statements like this one, people wrongfully associate feminism with the idea that people who believe in the notion are out to get men.

Is Lady Gaga a Feminist, or Is She Not?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, Feminism is defined as the “belief that women should be allowed the same rights, power, and opportunities as men and be treated in the same way.” We don’t see anything about feminists being anti-men here.

So Gaga could still “hail men”and enjoy the American male culture without running away from the label, right? Well, to her credit, she later backtracked on her above-mentioned statements in an interview with theLA Times, which took place later in the same year.

During the conversation, Gaga told the interviewer that she was“getting the sense that”she was a“little bit of a feminist”just like herself. Well, looks like she evolved a bit over the months between the above-mentioned interview and this one, didn’t she?

Right now, Gaga can be seen inJoaquin Phoenix’sJoker: Folie à Deux, which has beendenouncedby the critics as well as the fans. OnRotten Tomatoes, the film has a 33% score on both the Tomatometer (critics) and the Popcornmeter (audience). Yikes.
