Álvarez, the director of this seventh installment, has big shoes to fill, but judging from Scott’srecent praise, the former is more than up to the task.Alien: Romulusis poised to be a standalone interquel, bridging the gap between the 1979 classic (Alien)and its 1986 sequel, (Aliens).

Critics are already lining up to singAlien: Romulus’ praises. Brandon Davis, host and producer ofPhase Zero, took to X to declare that the upcoming sci-fi horror film is“shockingly good”.
Real Meaning Behind Alien: Romulus’ Title Has a Special Connection to the Roman Empire and Its Just as Epic as the Film Itself
According to his review, it seems he is absolutely thrilled with the film, praising its inventive spin on horror, and visuals without diving into gratuitous gore. He stressed that the film channels the essence of the originalAlienflicks so perfectly that it feels as though the franchise has been rejuvenated.
Alien: Romulus is shockingly good. This movie is so inventive with horror, thrills, and visuals while never crossing into gratuitous blood or gore. It emulates the original Alien movies so well.I had to pick my jaw up off the floor in the third act. That was insane. Wow.pic.twitter.com/0XVQsx2tkQ
Davis’s approval suggests thatAlien: Romulusis not just meeting expectations but exceeding them with a flair for inventive horror. Moreover, Film critic Courtney Howard described it as“gnarly, gripping & gorgeously bleak,” cementing its status as a standout entry in the series. Check out her full post:
Fede Alvarez’s#AlienRomulusis gnarly, gripping & gorgeously bleak (everything from the story to Olivares’ cinematography to Wallfisch’s score). Innovatively delivering smart, savvy stuff, subtly playing the greatest hits. Cailee Spaeny & David Jonsson dominate. This rules!pic.twitter.com/kEuDZku2Oz
But some critics feel the film starts to lose its way as it reaches the finish line. Film Inquiry critic Mark McPherson observed that by the third act, the thematic elements seem to get “lost” in the cosmic dust.
#AlienRomuluswas a lot of fun. It’s gritty and gruesome in all the best ways. The thematic elements get lost in the shuffle by the third act, and some minor fanservice moments feel mildly tacky. Outside of that, it’s a great Alien film with solid casting, sets, and effects.pic.twitter.com/DuatcB0pEX
StarringCailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu, the film promises to be a thrilling ride. With a fresh take on a beloved franchise and a new era on the horizon, fans and critics alike are gearing up for what could be a stellar addition to this acclaimed franchise.
