George Miller gives fans a more in-depth look at Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus inFuriosa: A Mad Max Sagain a recent interview. The director, who helmed the 45-year-long dystopian epic franchise, also teased another possible spinoff that may dig deeper into the character.

George Miller Had To Create Dementus’ Backstory
During his interview with Josh Horowitz’sHappy Sad Confusedpodcast, directorGeorge Millerrevealed he made a backstory for Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus. “There is. I had to do it,” he confirmed. He also explained how far the initial concept was as compared with what fans saw on the big screen.
Mahiro Maeda, the great Japanese anime artist, did some concept art and he drew Dementus, a different looking Dementus than we see Chris Hemsworth play.

He revealed thatDementus“had a teddy bear hooked onto under his costume” and this was the commencement of the story of the teddy bear. The character refers to the item as something that belongs to his own children. Miller had to go back and figure out Dementus’ story to justify why he acts in a certain way.
The director claimed Dementus likes to have a “sense of showman pageantry” as evident in the manner he moves. “He’s one of those flamboyant characters,” Miller added.
