Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of theFalloutvideo game series has been impressing viewers since its debut on the platform. The series received mostly positive reviews, especially for its performances including that of Walton Goggins as the mutated gunslinger The Ghoul.

However, many fans will be surprised to learn that the unique appearance of Goggins’ character, which depicts him with a cut-off nose, was not achieved with practical effects. During an interview, Goggins spoke about how his peculiar look in the series was achieved and dished out about the makeup process. Here is what Goggins shared about his character’s look inFallout.

Walton Gogginshas impressed viewers withhis performance as The Ghoul / Cooper Howard, a mutated gunslinger inFallout. In the series, Goggins’s ghoulish appearance is marked by the absence of a nose. However, fans will be surprised to learn that the realistic appearance of The Ghoul’s look was created using CGI.
During an interview withTVLine, Goggins was asked about how it was to act with prosthetics on his face that hid his nose during his screen appearance. However, Goggins explained that the prosthetics applied on his face actually did not alter his nose, which was digitally removed during post-production.

“It was fine for me because I had a nose while we were filming it and the the prosthetic pieces came to a point where they created this triangle right and then they put these white dots over my nose so that they could take it out in post.”

Goggins made the above statement revealing thatthe realistic and intimidating look of his characterwas achieved through CGI instead of practical effects. Therefore, Goggins did not have any issue playing a noseless character in the series. However, Goggins added it might have been a challenge for his co-actors to act opposite him given his heavy prosthetics look.
Walton Goggins Talks About the Lengthy Make-Up Process ForFalloutRole
During the same process, Goggins also spoke about the makeup process for getting into his character of The Ghoul / Cooper Howard. TheInvinciblevoice actor was asked whether the makeup for hisFalloutrole was more challenging than his turn as Venus, a transgender character Goggins played in the FX crime drama seriesSons of Anarchy.
“It was much more uncomfortable.”

Goggins made the above statement regarding the prosthetics that were applied to his face and extended to his neck for hisFalloutcharacter. While Goggins noted that the makeup process for Venus took nearly four hours, the process for The Ghoul character took almost five hours at the start. However, the crew was later able to reduce the time Goggins spent in the makeup chair.
