The main criticism that fans had was how the show deviated from many core narrative elements of the game.
The relationship between Pablo Schreiber’s Master Chief and Charlie Murphy’s Makee received flak from audiences, and their s*x scene in episode 8 put off many core fans of the games. Recently, Schreiber voiced his agreement with fans over the scene, admitting that the romanticization of the characters was a huge mistake. He told SFX Magazine (viaGamesradar)
“The decision to make the connection between Makee and John a romantic connection was a huge mistake. I felt it was a huge mistake at the time and I argued against it and fought against it. But I am who I am. I don’t write the scripts. I only give my opinion. It wasn’t listened to.”

“We’re currently working on season two. We have a new creator on board who I’m incredibly excited about. David Wiener is a very, very talented and skilled writer. He’s going to bring to the table so much depth and curiosity about this universe that it’s only going to get more and more rich and compelling. I’m just thrilled.”
