Created by Yoshihiro Togashi, this series stands apart in the shonen genre for its complex power system, strategicbattles, and characters whose strength comes not just from raw power but from creativity, resolve, and specialized abilities.
Hunter X Hunter: 8 Strongest Chimera Ants, Ranked
The Chimera Ant arc introduced powerful allies and enemies. Here are the eight strongest Chimera Ant foes who left a lasting impact on the series.
Among the many hunters who’ve graced our screens, some stand head and shoulders above the rest. Here are the 8 strongest Hunters in the series, fighters who have demonstrated abilities far beyond normal human limits.

The Bankrupt Loan Shark With A Heart Of Gold
Knuckle Bine might look like a typicaldelinquentwith his pompadour hairstyle and tearful outbursts, but he’s one of the most tactically brilliant fighters in the series. His Nen ability, Chapter 7 Bankruptcy: Hakoware, is a perfect reflection of his mathematical mind, allowing him to “lend” aura to opponents that collects interest over time.
When Knuckle fought Gon during the Chimera Ant arc, he demonstrated not just physical superiority but incredible battle sense. He easily outmaneuvered the young hunter despite Gon’s tremendous potential, proving that experience often trumps raw talent.

Lightning In Human Form
Killua Zoldyck isn’t just one of the series' most beloved characters, he’s a walking contradiction. Raised in the infamous Zoldyck family of assassins, Killua was groomed to be a living weapon from birth. But he didn’t want that life. What he wanted was freedom, friends, and maybe, a sense of purpose beyond silent kills and clean exits.
By the time we meet him during the Hunter Exam, Killua already knows how to tear out a man’s heart with surgical precision. But what makes him terrifying isn’t his assassin training, it’s his lightning-based Nen ability, Godspeed. By controlling the electric aura in his body, he reaches speeds and reaction times that few others in the series can match.

Killua’s real showcase was during the Chimera Ant arc. His transformation into a strategic powerhouse culminated in his solo battle against Rammot, where he annihilated the enemy without breaking a sweat.
Eyes That Bleed With Vengeance
Kurapika is the last survivor of the Kurta Clan, a people whose eyes turn scarlet when they feel intense emotion, a beauty so rare that the Phantom Troupe massacred them just to sell their eyes on the black market. Kurapika didn’t just survive that night, he transformed his grief into a weapon.
His Nen ability, Chain Jail, only works on members of the Phantom Troupe, but when it does, it completely paralyzes them. Thanks to Emperor Time, he can use all categories of Nen at 100% efficiency while his eyes are scarlet. That’s something not even seasoned masters can do.

Kurapika’s best showing came during the Yorknew City arc, where he captured Uvogin, one of the Troupe’s powerhouses, and forced him into submission. He later used his abilities to battle Chrollo Lucilfer indirectly, proving that vengeance wasn’t just his motivation, it was his edge.
But Kurapika’s power comes with a cost. Every time he uses Emperor Time, it shortens his lifespan.

A Smile That Fooled Death
Kite was Gon’s mentor, Ging’s former student, and one of the few characters in Hunter x Hunter whose strength was matched by their humility. Quiet, reserved, and always alert, Kite wielded a strange Nen ability called Crazy Slots, a roulette that summoned a random weapon depending on the number rolled.
He didn’t know which weapon he’d get until the slot spun, yet he could use each one efficiently, even under pressure. During the Chimera Ant arc, he fought fiercely against Neferpitou, one of the Royal Guards. He knew he couldn’t win. He fought anyway.
5 Legendary Moments from Hunter x Hunter
Netero and Meruem made this show legendary.
That’s the fight that broke Gon. Kite’s death, brutal, merciless, and horrifying, shattered the boy’s innocence and became the catalyst for Gon’s descent into darkness. But even in death, Kite remained an anchor. When he was reincarnated in a new form, he reminded us that kindness doesn’t die. It evolves.
The Ageless Mentor In A Child’s Disguise
She looks like a dainty little girl in a frilly dress, but “Bisky” Krueger is anything but delicate. In reality, she’s a 57-year-old Double-Star Stone Hunter and one of the most technically skilled Nen users in the series.
Her true form, massively muscular and towering, is comically at odds with her usual appearance, but that’s part of her genius. She uses her looks to mislead enemies and allies alike. But when Bisky gets serious, she can destroy boulders with her bare fists and outmaneuver opponents twice her size.
She played a crucial role in training both Gon and Killua during the Greed Island arc. It wasn’t just about physical conditioning, she taught them the principles of Nen at an advanced level, fast-tracking their growth. She even held her own in a fight against Razor, one of Greed Island’s creators, known for his raw power and strategic mind.
A Smile More Dangerous Than A Blade
Hisoka doesn’t hide what he is, he’s a predator, plain and simple. Whether he’s fighting a child or a seasoned killer, he seeks only one thing: a worthy challenge. He’s obsessed with potential, and that’s what makes him so dangerous; he lets his prey grow stronger just so the fight will be more thrilling later.
His Nen ability, Bungee Gum, has both the properties of rubber and gum, allowing him to attach invisible threads to objects and people for manipulation, mobility, or deadly traps. His Texture Surprise lets him disguise objects by placing aura-based stickers over them, perfect for deception.
His fights are always unforgettable. Against Kastro in Heaven’s Arena, Hisoka let himself get beaten up just to understand his opponent’s illusion-based Nen. Against Chrollo Lucilfer, the battle turned into a high-stakes mind game, ending with Hisoka “dying”, only to resurrect himself using Nen.
Love him or hate him, for me the characters of Hisoka was unpredictable, unnerving, and undeniably powerful.
2Adult Gon
The Price Of Power Is Everything
Adult Gon isn’t technically a hunter rank or official transformation; it’s the manifestation of Gon Freecss’s full potential, achieved through a dangerous Nen covenant that sacrificed his future for immediate power. This form represents what Gon would have been had he trained for decades.
The visual transformation is striking. Gon’s childish features elongate, his muscle mass increases dramatically, and his green-tipped hair grows to tremendous length. But the physical changes pale in comparison to the exponential increase in his Nen capacity.
When Gon transformed to fight Neferpitou, even the Royal Guard, one of the strongest beings in the series, was overwhelmed by his power. The fight that followed was no contest. Adult Gon dismantled Pitou with terrifying ease, crushing their skull and pummeling their body with such force that the surrounding forest was destroyed.
The price for this power was severe. Gon was left at death’s door, saved only by Alluka’s wish-granting ability. This transformation stands as a chilling reminder of what happens when limitless potential meets unbridled rage.
A Prayer That Shook The Heavens
Isaac Netero, former Chairman of the Hunter Association, spent decades in isolation just to pray faster. That sounds strange, until you realize each of his punches came with divine speed and holy precision.
Netero’s Nen ability, the 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, summoned a giant aura-based statue with hundreds of arms. Each hand strike came faster than the eye could follow, so fast, even Meruem, the Chimera Ant King, couldn’t react in time. In their legendary battle, Netero unleashed a flurry of strikes that seemed impossible for a man his age.
But even after exhausting every technique, Netero knew he couldn’t defeat Meruem. So he used his last resort, The Poor Man’s Rose, a miniature nuke implanted in his heart. He detonated it at point-blank range.
Although he died, he remained the strongest Hunter in the anime, as he was the only one capable of fighting the Ant King, Meruem.
