How Do You Open the Gate of Deep Sorrows in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
The key to opening the Gate of Deep Sorrows is hidden in Treviso. There, you will find the Guardian Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar’nan. Take him down, collect his Essence, and you have the key to the Gate of Deep Sorrows in your pocket.
Desmal, Bloodbound to Elger’nan, is lurking on the rooftops of Treviso. To find him, fast-travel to Treviso’s Heart and Central and make your way through the doorway on the right.
Once you’ve passed through the halls, you will emerge into a large, paved area with makeshift walls and cages. You may or may not have to prepare for a fight here, depending on how far you are through your adventure.
Make your way to the northeast corner of the area, where you will find a climbable wall to the right of a large statue.
Climb the trellis to reach the roof and make your way up the boxes on the right to find a zipline that will take you to the Crow’s Road Rooftops.

Catch the second zipline on the right and leap across to the next rooftop. On the right side of the building, there is an opening in one of the large, triangular-shaped windows.
Head through there to find the rooftop where Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar’nan, is lying dormant inside a large Blight Cyst.
Defeat the enemies before destroying the sack containing the Guardian. Guardians are large and aggressive enemies that are hard enough to deal with on their own, and you don’t need the distraction of all the weaker enemies.
How to Defeat the Guardian in Treviso
Desmal, Bloodbound to Elger’nan, is a huge, horned creature with shiny black skin and razor-sharp red crystals protruding from its body. And, unfortunately, it is just as strong as it looks.
Desmal is level 25, so while it may be tempting to take him on sooner, we recommend waiting until you are at least at a similar level before waking him from his slumber.
If youinsist on taking him on early, equip yourself with some of thebest early-gameweaponsto give yourself the best chance possible.
Desmal has two main forms of attack. His giant, blood-red axe and a stream of fire that it shoots in your direction. Thankfully, the fire attack has a visual tell so you can easily anticipate when it is about to strike.
It can be difficult to notice finer details in the heat of battle but keep moving when you see a red line appear on the battlefield.
That is the visual tell for the fire blast move, and it can be avoided by consistently running out of the line of fire.

you’re able to also expect to be charged in this fight. Desmal charges hard, so dodge left or right to avoid getting struck. He will also slam his fist into the ground. This causes a red ring to appear on the battlefield. Stay out of this area before it ignites in a shockwave of power.
The third trick Desmal has up his sleeves is a Blight power that he uses to rain projectiles down upon the battlefield. This damages you on impact, so stay on the move and avoid any of the red circles that appear in the arena to dodge this attack.
When it comes to beating Desmal, Bloodbound to Elger’nan, you have a couple of options. To begin with, you will need to focus your attention on using hard-hitting charged attacks to break through his defenses.
His weakness is fire, and he is resistant to Necrosis. So, if you are a Necrosis Mage, switching tactics for this battle is recommended.
Focus on dodging his attacks, staying on the move at all times, and hitting him with charged and/or fire-based attacks. Eventually, you will take Desmal down and be free to collect his Essence.
How to Open the Gate of Deep Sorrows
Once you have collected Desmal’s Essence, you are ready to head to the Crossroads and unlock the Gate of Deep Sorrows.
Fast-travel to the Crossroads and navigate to the Converged City. There, on the edge of the town, is a gate made from gnarled roots with a relief inside that is the exact shape and size of Desmal’s Essence.
Interact with the gate to place the Essence in its slot and open the Gate of Deep Sorrows. Opening the gate will earn you +250 Caretaker Power and will open the way to one of the Crossroad’s Timelost Hoards.
