Alicent arrived at Dragonstone to try to make a deal to spare her and her daughter’s lives. She suggested that Rhaenyra fly into the Red Keep when Aemond is gone, and Haleana would be in charge. Alicent would ensure the guards threw down their arms, and she would enter as the conqueror. Rhaenyra asks about Aegon, and Alicent attempts to stick up for him, but Rhaenyra says that if she is to take the throne, she must end the opposition. That means taking Aegon’s head in front of everyone to see. The Queen suggests that Alicent must choose (A Son for a Son).

House of the Dragondelivers a fitting end to a brilliantly written season, setting up a war-filled third season. We witnessed one of the best performances from start to finish by Emma D’Arcy, who will run away with the Emmy after ending the season with not one but two powerful scenes opposite Matthew Smith and Olivia Cooke. This episode is not only the best of the season but delivered the best and what undoubtedly will be the most talked about moments of the season.
