During Gamescom’s Opening Night Live 2022, Homeworld 3 premiered a brand new gameplay trailer. The world premiere trailer showcased a fresh look at what’s to come from the space-based RTS title.
The trailer from the opening night of Gamescom 2022 shows off multiple features of Homeworld 3, with a heavy focus on the real-time space combat in the game. It showed the follow of battle and how an innocent parameter check can turn into a full-fledged conflict. The trailer also revealed the new cover system, UI, and release window.
The trailer starts off by showing the new Mothership in the same hyperspace animation from the older games. A similar animation indicates that Homeworld 3 is not straying afar from its roots. The trailer also shows several types of ships including fighters, assault frigates, missile frigates, resource collectors, and the enemy carrier. The visuals of the game have received a significant upgrade, and the developers have changed the UI too. Fans were also treated to a peek at the intense dog fights between the fighters while the big ships stayed still, exploding and leaving chunks of debris behind them.
An innovative new cover system was also shown in the trailer, which is probably the most significant innovation in Homeworld 3. Objects are placed very cleverly so that players can have plenty of paths to choose from while evading enemies. There were also several floating panels from destroyed ships. These panels provide the ultimate cover from the missile barrages. The game is extremely strategical, a quality for which the Homeworld series is known.
Homeworld 3 was also confirmed to be launching during the first half of 2023, with a more specific release date likely to be shared in the coming months. It should be a piece of excellent news for Homeworld fans as, after almost 20 years, the space-based RTS game is getting a sequel. As usual, Blackbird Interactive is developing the game. They have also worked on a similar land-based game that is a sort of prequel to the Homeworld series in 2016, named theDeserts of Kharak. It was released just after theHomeworld Remaster.
The game is still under development. But gamers will be able to wishlist the game on both Steam and Epic Games Store before the release. A collector’s edition will also be available for purchase that will come with scale models of multiple ships from the Homeworld 3 game like the Mothership, Torpedo Frigate, and more.
