In Hogwarts Legacy, you have the ability to use 26 different spells once they are unlocked. In order to unlock each spell you need to complete a mission or an assignment. Within these spells, you have different types of spells, Utility, Control, Damage, and Transfiguration. Here are the Control spells you can use ranked.
Levioso is one of the spells you learn early on in the game. One of the main activities you are learning this spell for is dueling. In combat, you’re able to use this spell to levitate your enemy in the air taking them out of the fight, this allows you to do damage while they are not able to return fire. You could also just leave them floating there while you focus on other enemies around you.

If you upgrade Levioso in your Talents then you can make it so multiple enemies nearby will be levitated when this spell is cast. This really helps you when facing lots of enemies. Levioso is also used when you are solving puzzles or getting to high places. When you move a box to below a ledge you can then cast Levioso to levitate the box and climb up.
Glacius is learned from Madam Kagawa and is a great spell when fighting enemies. With this spell you will freeze an enemy in place, you can choose to leave them frozen for a short amount of time. You can also do a follow-up attack on the frozen enemy and this will cause increased damage. The Talent upgrade for this control spell makes it even better when you do your follow-up attack on an enemy. It will send shards of ice blasting out, these will then damage all nearby enemies, giving you a good area of effect.

Glacius can also be used while exploring and for some puzzles. You will notice in the game you will have to put out fires or hit cubes with the right ice spell. This is what Glacius will do so make sure to unlock it when you’re able to if you want to keep progressing. Glacius can also be used when catching Magical Beasts. This is because it will freeze them in place for a short amount of time, it is best used on creatures that are quick to catch. However, it can be used on tougher beasts as long as you are quick enough.
2Transformation
The Transformation spell is learned from Professor Weasley later in the story missions. With this spell, you can turn enemies and other objects into alternate forms. When using this in battle the enemy you hit with this spell will turn into an object such as a crate. This will only be for a short amount of time but stops them from being able to fight while also allowing you to damage them.
Once you unlock the Mastery Talent for Transformation, it will turn enemies into explosive barrels, you can then throw these barrels at other enemies. This will kill the person turned into a barrel while also damaging the enemies hit with the barrel. This spell can also be used to complete certain puzzles by turning objects around you into something you can use, such as platforms to climb up to high places.

1Arresto Momentum
This spell is also learned from Madam Kagawa by completing Assignment two for her. This is another spell used in both combat and as you traverse the map. When Dueling you can use this spell to slow down enemies, whether this is just where they stand or as they fly through the air from another spell. This then allows you to fight other enemies around you or do damage to them without response. This spell really comes in handy when fighting large groups of enemies, or if you need to heal quickly before getting back in the fight. If you unlock the Talent slot for this spell then Arresto Momentum then has a curse effect when used in dueling. So it would react the same as any other curse and cause increased damage to the enemy that is cursed.
This spell is also used when completing puzzles such as unlocking the doors in the clock tower. You will need to slow the pendulum in the right place to unlock the doors and loot the chests, so this spell can really come in handy. It can also be used to slow down any moving parts such as cogs or moth-powered cranks which open up certain pathways. This spell is also very handy when it comes to catching beasts because it slows things down so well, it makes catching beasts in your Nab Sack much easier. This is especially handy against flying creatures.
