But one of the reasons Crocodile is still considered relevant to the plot despite him being defeated is because of the Croco-Mom theory. This wild theory tries to unearth who Luffy’s real mom is.

What is the Croco-Mom Theory ofOne Piece?

According tothe Croco-Mom theoryof One Piece, it was Crocodile who gave birth to Luffy. As far-fetched as the theory sounds, it actually had a lot of mental gymnastics behind its creation. According to the theory, Crocodile wasn’t always a man. He was a woman in the beginning and gave birth to Luffy after an affair with Monkey D. Dragon.

However, due to a change in his attitude or for some ulterior motive, he changed his gender with the help of Ivankov. When both the characters met during the Impel Down arc, Crocodile seemed somewhat submissive to the Okama. The speculated reason behind this is thatIvankov helped Crocodile change his genderafter Luffy’s birth and is the only one who knows his real identity.

Thus, when Crocodile faced Luffy in the Arabasta Saga, he realized that his mistake had survived and tried his best to dispose of him. Some of EiichiroOda’s illustrations of Crocodileat an early age, show him as an androgynous person. It is also speculated that when Gol D. Roger was being executed, Crocodile was present there in his previous female self.

Crocodile as a Kid One Piece

It was recently revealed that Joe Manganiello has been cast as Crocodile in the One Piece live-action series. Since the second season will be adapting the Arabasta Saga, Crocodile will be the main antagonist in the upcoming episodes. However, since Magnaniello is a white man with no similarities to the woman shown during the execution of Gol D. Roger, fans will have to accept that she was just an extra.

On the other hand, you can still cling to the Croco-mom theory as Eiichiro Oda could have simply omitted the scene ofCrocodile’s presence exactly because it would confirm too many unknown possibilities regarding the series. Nonetheless, Manganiello is an awesome casting for Crocodile and fans hope that he does a great job at fleshing out the character.

One Piecemanga is available to read on Viz Media. Its anime and live-action adaptation are streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix, respectively.
