AHelldivers 2player is being praised by the game’s community after creating a full presentation on how lasers could be improved. During the nine-slide presentation, the user gives a compelling argument on why lasers should be improved and how Arrowhead should go about doing it.

Over on the Helldivers subreddit, Reddit userCommscompiled together a concise and well-thought-out solution to those lackluster laser weapons. Titled ‘A Modset Proposal To Make Lasers Better,’ the presentation kicks off by saying “LASERS ARE AWESOME.” It was at this point that I knew this guy was onto something.

Helldivers 2: New Meta Loadouts (Democratic Detonation)

This guide details the best loadouts choices that complement each other across all difficulty levels as established in Helldivers 2’s new meta.

After establishing that lasers are, in fact, awesome, the user started by saying “The lasers in Helldivers 2 suck.” They went on to explain that contrary to popular belief, the laser does not have infinite ammo. Instead, it has a heat cycle mechanic. While simply removing the mechanic and actually giving the weapon infinite ammo would be a good solution, this player has a better idea.

“Imagine if the laser, instead of penetrating armor, reduced the armor rating of armor,” Comms said. “Scythe could have a minor effect while the cannon would have a moderate effect. The reduction can be temporary, even very short, a few seconds.”

Essentially, the user is suggesting that lasers should create a temporary weak point on bugs such as chargers, which can be notoriously difficult to defeat. While the laser wouldn’t necessarily kill the charger, it would allow Helldivers to work together. One user could create a weak point on the enemy using a laser, while another could target that weak point to deal damage.

As for enemies that don’t have armor, the user recommends laser weapons still deal out damage to them. This would, essentially, allow laser weapons to be used as both primary weapons and as a support weapon.

Helldivers 2 Players Praise Laser Overhaul Idea

Will Arrowhead implement this fan’s idea into the game? Who knows, but it’s certainly getting a lot of love on Reddit.

The user, whose post has garnered over 19,000 upvotes at the time of writing, is being heavily praised by the community. “I’m voting for you as my representative so hard right now, my Democracy officer is in tears at how democratic this is,” Reddit userBound18996said. Others simply said, “If we were allowed to vote, I’d definitely vote for this guy.”

Reddit userRum_N_Napalmexplained how Helldivers 2 “needs dedicated armour stripping weapons,” after finding success with the Autocannon and Arc Thrower.

“This is a great idea! Love that it still encourages teamwork,” Reddit userElflord54said.

While there’s a slim chance that Arrowhead will take this idea on board, the studio did release its very first balance patch earlier this week. Patrik Lasota, Head of Product Testing at Arrowhead, also discussed the power of primary weapons, saying, “Many have commented that they aren’t powerful enough…This is very much intentional, you need to rely on your Stratagems, and the Stratagems of your team to deal with all the enemies effectively.”

The update lowered the number of shells in each magazine and increased the recoil of the SG-225 Breaker, made adjustments to the Railgun’s safe mode so that it can now penetrate medium armor, increased the damage of the Flamethrower, and much more. Fire. Blood. Lead. Napalm. War is beautiful. But only when it’s used to remind us how horrible it truly is.
