Kakashi consistently ranks amongst the top characters inNaruto, and for good reason. He is powerful, mysterious, and humorous, a combination that can make anyone drool. But how was he as a sensei to Team 7?
While Kakashi is often considered a great sensei, on closer observation, you might find many faults with the logic. His greatest mistake stems from the fact that he treated the members of Team 7 unequally.
Kakashi Did Not Treat Team 7 Equally inNaruto
The two biggest victims of Kakashi’s negligence were Naruto and Sakura. Naruto was admittedly an annoying kid, and both his classmates and teachers were done with him. However, as his appointed mentor, Kakashi should have paid more attention to the kid. Kakashi was also aware of his past as well as the fact thatNaruto had next to no one, yet he always pointed out how inept Naruto was.

Leaving Naruto aside, Kakashi did not treat Sakura much better either. Sakura was a smart student, but she would freeze up in front of imminent danger and struggle to apply her learned techniques. But she had noticeable potential, and yet Kakashi ignored her in favor of the other two.
Kakashi also pushed his students to take the Chunin exam. Sakura was not fully prepared for it and would have failed. Naruto made it through because of luck, and without it, the team would have been doomed. Sasuke was powerful, but he derailed to be a stubborn fighter. All of them needed some more time to grow, and as a result, Sasuke turned to the dark side.
Kakashi Favored Sasuke Too Much
Orochimaru branded Sasuke with the cursed seal during the second phase of the Chunin Exams. Thus, Kakashi began paying special attention to the kid as a safety measure. Kakashi felt thatSasuke was just like him due to his pastand probably felt a sort of kinship. He might have been best suited to help Sasuke, but ignoring the others entirely is unforgivable.
Another logic in Kakashi’s favor is that none of the other instructors taught their students anything special either, and everyone just developed their clan techniques. But since Kakashi had problem children who lacked clan techniques, his inefficiency is far more visible. But Kakashi favored Sasukedue to their similar powersand actually guided him. But if the mentors can only teach students with the same chakra type then what is the use of having other students anyways?

Furthermore, Kakashi himself admitted that he wasn’t suitable to teach Naruto and picked Ebisu to train him. Ebisu can be called a substitute teacher who was called for during a dire state. Kakashi sidelines his responsibility towards Naruto completely. Later, Naruto left the village to learn with Jiraiya, and Sakura also came under Tsunade’s guidance. The only student that Kakashi favored ended up being a rogue shinobi.
