We now live in a world where a newHalf-Lifegame exists. No, it is not the sequel everyone now jokes about, but a VR game known asHalf-Life: Alyx. The Valve game was recently revealed with newHalf-Life: Alyxscreenshots flaunting its dilapidated Earth.
Set betweenHalf-LifeandHalf-Life 2, you will play as Alyx Vance, one of the founders of the human resistance, and fight the invading Combine as the interdimensional organization builds its fortress, the Citadel. Alyx and her father Eli have been holed up in City 17, performing research and building tools to aid them in their fight.
In terms of gameplay, the recently released announcement trailer shows a good slice of what to expect from the return of theHalf-Lifeseries. Like many FPS VR games, you have two hands in front of you which are controlled with the Valve Index controllers, or any other supported controllers. Most of the gameplay shown involves shooting or moving objects with your hands. Player movement isn’t really shown too often, but it does look more like a traditional game rather than the teleporting method games likeDoom VFRused.
Afterwatching the trailerand seeing the screenshots (which you’re able to see below), I’m pretty impressed with how good the game looks graphically. There aren’t a lot of graphically demanding VR titles out there, so it’s wild to see something strive for high-end graphics for VR. It should also be noted that this isn’t just a short experience you’ll put down after a couple of hours.Half-Life: Alyxis a “full-length” game said to be around the same length asHalf-Life 2.
Half-Life: Alyxwill be available via SteamVR sometime in March 2020. However, just about any VR headset that can be used on a PC is accessible. This includes the Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality.
