There may be no live-action Trevor Philips or Franklin Clinton in the pipeline, but one Rockstar head believes the publisher is carving out the future of videogames.

The Reason Grand Theft Auto 5’s DLC Was Cancelled Probably Won’t Surprise You

An ex-Rockstar developer has revealed why the leaked ‘Agent Trevor’ DLC never saw the light of day, but the reason isn’t exactly surprising.

Edinburgh, Scotland’s historical capital, is currently hosting the Game On exhibition at the city’s National Museum, serving as the “largest interactive exhibition of the history and the culture of video games.” Created by Barbican Immersive, the event provides an in-depth look at the “creative and technological advances that have established a new medium and artform” and includes several displays from Rockstar North - since the studio operates out of Edinburgh.

Some GTA features include a statue of Claude and a 10th-anniversary baseball bat from the third entry, a San Andreas skateboard, and a replica of the Statue of Happiness from GTA 4. Red Dead Redemption fans were also treated to playing card replicas and never-before-seen concept art from RDR2. ​

Among the displays (ThanksCentral Gaming Hub) was a quote from the current head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North, Aaron Garbut, who shared the following sentiment:

GTA fans will remember Garbut being in the news last year after his son appeared to leak footage from the in-development GTA 6 on TikTok. The footage was said to be only 13 seconds long but gave viewers a poor-resolution look at the open-world city.
